Links to Root Folders Only Instead of Default Pages and Views Microsoft SharePoint Best practice tip with links to any site location (e.g. SharePoint lists and libraries).    Often, default views (which launch when a root folder is accessed) of libraries and lists are changed, deleted,  enhanced such that if you use the default view that may be available today, the link in the future may not  work if the MS‐SharePoint designer changes something fundamental (many different types of changes  possible and many scenarios).  What we do when we link to a library or list is remove everything from the URL but the actual root location  since we know that the current default page will automatically launch, regardless of what it may be today,  tomorrow or in the longer‐term future; here are some examples to trigger ideas of testing this out with your  own Microsoft SharePoint sites:  Instead of:  sharepoint.com/CrossTeamFiles/Forms/AllItems.aspx Use:   sharepoint.com/CrossTeamFiles/  Instead of:  sharepoint.com/FAQsGsPs/Forms/Active.aspx  Use:   sharepoint.com/FAQsGsPs/  Instead of:  sharepoint.com/PIX/Forms/AllItems.aspx  Use:   sharepoint.com/PIX/  Instead of:  sharepoint.com/Lists/Contacts/AllItems.aspx  Use:   sharepoint.com/Lists/Contacts/  Instead of:  sharepoint.com/Lists/Tasks/AllItems.aspx  Use:   sharepoint.com/Lists/Tasks/    If you practice that little tip, you’ll never have to worry about any future changes to any default pages  currently active for that root web folder (list, library, etc.).  Of course the tip above is not relevant when you  must link to a specific view, page, folder, file or list item.      Please contact us with any questions.
