Steps to the SMART 7 Step 3: Readeach paragraph. Stop and think about what you’ve read. Write 1 to 3 key wordsin the margin for each paragraph This prompts the student to summarize as he or she reads instead of at the end. http://www.flickr.com/photos/judybaxter/53762992/
Steps to the SMART 7 Step 4: Read each question- underline key words The student can then match the key words of the question to the key words from each paragraph. Step 5: Read each answer and put ✔, ?, ✖ beside each choice. Here the student labels each possible answer to begin eliminating choices.
