    • This type is used for research and career seeking
    • It is using your contacts to find other contacts that have the information that you need to make an informed decision
    • It is using your contacts to find the people with the information that you can use in your research. It may lead to a collaboration.

    • How do you do this?
    • Ask and you shall receive, but ask nicely!
    • Ask your contact to recommend you or introduce you to their contact.
    • Keep your contact informed and thank them
    • Tell the new contact how you know your contact.

    • Have an agenda and a set time 15 – 30 minutes.
    • Stick to your agenda and give yourself 5 minutes to ask for another meeting or other contacts

    • You will normally ask one of the above if they can recommend someone in the area you need.
    • These are people you trust or trust you.

    • Today there seems to be more and more meeting for this type of networking.
    • There are BNI, Chamber, Meetup.com, LI Group, Social, Mashable Meetup.com, Eventbrite.com, and more.

    • This encompasses a number of events we do all through our life.
    • Birthdays, sports, family reunions, weddings, funerals, camping, etc
    • We are more relaxed in these situations.
    • We will build relationships more easily

    • Facebook for family & friends and business
    • Twitter for business
    • MySpace for family and friends
    • Many others but these are the top four.

    • Doctors, Lawyers, Dentist, Accountant, Pharmacist, Mechanic, Plumber, etc.
    • If you are career seeking do not overlook this network.
    • If you are in business the same applies.

    • The best way to make this work for you is to adhere to the rules of etiquette.
    • Networking does not provide instant gratification

    • When approaching your contact with a new contact. Face to face
    • When you are introducing a new contact to your contact. Email, phone call or letter

    • LinkedIn – The set up to get to 3rd degree contacts is more difficult and may not always work.
