1. Columbus leads Ohio in population growth
Columbus
• Over the past several decades, the Central Ohio region has consistently added more people than any
other major metropolitan area in Ohio. Since 1980, the region’s population has grown by 500,000
people, averaging a net gain of 14,300 persons per year. The 15-county Central Ohio region now has
over 2 million people, and according to the Council for Community and Economic Research, it’s
expected to continue its growth trajectory over the next 40 years, adding another half a million people.
