Transcript

  • 1.  Jesus had great compassion for those whom He encountered. ◦ When Jesus encountered two blind men on the roadside near Jericho, “Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes” (Matt 20:34). ◦ “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” (Matt 23:37). ◦ When a leper asked Jesus to heal Him, “Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him” (Mk 1:41).
  • 2.  Jesus taught the crowd.  Jesus teaches the average American. ◦ “They were like sheep not having a shepherd.” ◦ There is no doubt but that the average American wanders aimlessly.
  • 3.  The words of Jesus are so important. ◦ “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matt 17:5). ◦ “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” (Matt 24:35). ◦ “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (Jn 6:68).
  • 4.  Jesus teaches the average American differently than TV. ◦ “I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matt 5:28). ◦ “I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also” (Matt 5:39). ◦ “Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one” (Matt 5:37). ◦ “I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment” (Matt 12:36).
  • 5. vv 53-56
  • 6.  Jesus heals from much. ◦ 1 Cor 6:9-11. ◦ “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Cor 5:17).
