Background • data.bris JISC funded project from October 2011 to April 2013 • Business case for service created as part of the project (sponsored by PVC for Research) • Pilot service until 31st July 2015, collaboration with Library and IT Services • Aim to make research data support “business as usual” from August 2015 as cross service function 2
  3. 3. Governance • Reports to University’s Research Data Storage and Management Board (RDSMB) • Operational Planning Group overseeing day-to- day management • High level principles for Research Data Management • More formal policy to be developed over next 12 months 3
  4. 4. Staffing until July 2015 • 0.5 Service Manager • 1.5 Senior Research Data Librarians • 1.0 Assistant Research Data Librarian • 1.0 Technical Developer • Additional technical support for Research Data Storage Facility 4
  5. 5. Services Offered • Guidance and support materials • DMP checking • Data storage (through University’s Research Data Storage Facility) • Data sharing facilities for external collaboration • Data publication (through data.bris repository) • Training and advocacy 5

Technical Infrastructure • Each researcher offered 5TB for storage of data (Research Data Storage Facility) • Collaboration space for secure sharing of data • Deposit system for published datasets also using same underlying storage system (100GB) • CKAN for public catalogue of datasets • Nightly harvest of metadata from repository 6
  7. 7. • Specifically for publishing non- sensitive research data • Data retained for 20 years minimum • DOI assigned to each dataset for easy citation (via Datacite) • Data visualisation and analysis tools supported • All data available under a non- commercial license Research Data Repository

Priorities for Next 12 Months • Advocacy and promotion in faculties and schools • Establishing levels of ongoing service from Aug 2015 • Developing formal institutional Open Data and RDM policy • Integrating data repository with the University’s RIS (Pure) • Investigating potential shared services • Exploring curation and preservation requirements 8
