      • To describe an event in progress in the past. Neither the beginning nor the end of the action are relevant.
      • Used to describe continuous actions in the past.
      • For habits or repetition in the past.
      • (For events that happened at a particular moment use the perfect… e.g. il est n é le 3 octobre 1970)
    3. Formation of the imperfect
      • Formed from the nous part of the present tense, the –ons part taken off
      • Endings – ais, ais, ait, ions, iez, aient
      • Attention – être – add endings on to ét stem
