Responsible lawyers are especially sensitive to conflicts of interest, as they should be, and when you hire a freelance attorney to work on a project, you want to know that you\’re dealing with someone who is free of any conflicts. Here\’s what I do to deal with this. I maintain a confidential database with the names of all attorneys and firms who have hired me in the past, along with the names of their clients and related parties. I use this information to run a conflicts check. In addition, I have a paraphraph in my Professional Services Agreement that reads as follows:
USLegalWriting.com (USLW)agrees that it has provided no services of any kind to any person or entity that the Hiring Firm, either directly or through documents provided, has identified as opposed to the client\’s interests. USLW further agrees that it is not otherwise connected in any way with any such adverse person or entity.
Now, because I have a nationwide practice, and because of the nature of my work, conflicts are statistically pretty unlikely; but I think it\’s important that you get it from me in writing that there aren\’t any.
