News Back-to-school brigade out front with backpacks “Operation Homefront DC Metro” has 5,000 backpacks to hand out this summer to military children. Each backpack is full of school supplies and all children of active duty, E6 and below, are eligible to get a backpack. Families will have to register to receive the backpacks. Do this by going to the website www.operationhomefront.net/dcmetro. The backpacks will be handed out at five locations the second week of August as follows: Monday, Aug. 12 - Woodbridge, Va. (between Quantico and Fort Belvoir) Tuesday, Aug. 13 - California, Md. (near Pax River) Wednesday, Aug. 14 - Lanham, Md. (near Fort Meade) Thursday, Aug. 15 - Morningside, Md. (near Joint Base Andrews) Friday, Aug. 16 - Aberdeen, Md. (near Aberdeen Proving Grounds) NEW – Transitioning? Think about Army Reserve Sgt. Furlough days/hours change for health clinics *The U.S. Army Health Clinic at Fort McNair is closed on Fridays until Sept. 30 due to furloughs. Hours of operation Monday through Thursday are from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For emergency services call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room as the clinic is not equipped for emergencies. For more information call the clinic at 202-685-3100. *Rader Dental Clinic will take urgent care and dental appointments on Fridays through Oct. 1. To get an “urgent care” appointment, call 1-855-227-6331; for a dental appointment, call 703- 696-3460. *The Pentagon's DiLorenzo Health Clinic notes changes in pharmacy hours: The DiLorenzo TRICARE Health Clinic pharmacy is now closed from noon to 1 p.m. every day. Weekdays: open from 7 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. (except the fourth Thursday of the month). On the fourth Thursday of the month, the pharmacy will be open from 7 to 11 a.m. Use of the DiLorenzo Pharmacy is limited to those who are authorized to use military medical facilities and who have unescorted access to the Pentagon. NEW – Free certification testing opportunity for Marines Headquarters Marine Corps and Henderson Hall Education Center offer a free certification testing opportunity for Marines in MOS fields 3043, 3051, 0431, and 0491, for E-4 and above. This training initiative will help active duty Marines earn industry certifications that map to their occupational specialties. The purpose of the Certified Logistics Technician (CLTAE) program is to recognize individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of material handling at the front-line (entry-level through front-line supervisor) through successful completion of the certification assessments. The goal of the CLTAE certification program is to raise the level of performance of logistics workers both to assist the individuals in finding higher-wage jobs and to help employers ensure their workforce increases the company's productivity and competitiveness. CLTAE is in two parts: the foundation level Certified Logistics Associate certificate and the mid-level tech technical CLT certification. Before sitting for the CLTAE assessment, candidates must have a CLA certificate. Delivered online, each assessment contains about 80 multiple-choice questions. Individuals are allowed 90-120 minutes to complete each assessment. If you have MOS 3043, 3051, 0431 or 0491, for E-4 and above, we would like to offer you the opportunity to test. NEW – Headquarters Co., U.S.A., change of responsibility There will be a change of responsibility at Headquarters Company, U.S. Army, Friday, Aug. 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Spates Community Club, Building 407, on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base as 1st Sergeant Brian St. Germaine relinquishes responsibility for the company to 1st Sergeant Jason L. Gusman. Everyone is invited to this time-honored ceremony to bid farewell to St. Germaine and his Family and welcome Gusman and his Family to HQ Co., USA, and the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall community. HQ Co., USA, is a unit of Headquarters Command Battalion, the Army’s largest battalion with more than 9,000 active duty and reserve component Soldiers assigned or attached, conducting worldwide operations. Then, Thursday, Aug. 15, there will be an electronics disposal event. Aug. 13, shredding will occur on the Fort McNair portion of the joint base: Building 29 from 9 to 10 a.m., and at Building 62 from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 14, shredding will be at Building 29, Henderson Hall portion of the joint base from 9 to 10 a.m.; at Building 59 (Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH) from 10 to 11 a.m.; and Building 321, also at Fort Myer from 11 a.m. to noon. Aug. 15, there will be an electronics recycle event. No government equipment will be accepted; large items such as CRT monitors and TVs cannot be accepted. The next class is Aug. 6 from 9 to 11 a.m., “Interviewing 101” will present the secret to becoming the candidate by preparing for interviews. On Aug. 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., learn to build your network to access the hidden job market by tapping into social networking sites. On Aug. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon, learn how to market yourself for a second career. On Aug. 22, “Cracking the Code to the Federal Hiring Process” is held from 1 to 3 p.m. This class explains how to apply for federal jobs, including how to prepare the appropriate résumé. Adecco will be on site Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to conduct a military spouse career connections intake session.
