    • 3. What is persuasion? •Persuasion is writing or speaking that is meant to change the audience’s thinking or actions. When is persuasion used? •We use it all of the time!
    • 4. Look and listen for persuasion that surrounds us!
    • 5. Look and listen for persuasion that surrounds us! Television and radio commercials convince people to buy products. Ads in newspapers and magazines and on billboards convince people to buy products. Election speeches convince people to vote for or against a candidate or issue.
    • 6. Students convince teachers not to give homework over prom weekend. Students convince their parents that the students should be allowed to go to a big concert on a school night. Think about the last time that you used persuasion or someone used persuasion with you.

    • 8. What are the parts of a persuasive essay? An introductory paragraph The body The conclusion
    • 9. The introductory paragraph contains
    • 10. The introductory paragraph contains an effective hook, an attention-grabber. a clear, opinionated statement: the thesis statement.
    • 11. The body paragraphs contain
    • 12. The body paragraphs contain a minimum of three supporting paragraphs with clear and effective support/evidence. an opposing argument response. transitional devices between ideas.
    • 13. The concluding paragraph contains
    • 14. The concluding paragraph contains a restatement of the main points. a call to action.
