If you thought last week's report on the rise of breadwinner moms caused a stir, get ready for more. There will be even more heated and more emotional debate as the trend intensifies, and we near the tipping point.

To put our reactions in context, it helps to take a look at how social change happens. As part of the research I did for the Big Flip, I took a look at various theories of social change—to understand where we are in the cycle of change, and what to expect. Here's a distillation of what I learned.
