for Belmont. Shylock suspects that Lorenzo
and Jessica were on board but the ship has
gone. Antonio tells him he saw them leave in
a gondola instead. Solanio mocks Shylock
rage of losing both his daughter and his
ducats. Antonio is warned that with Shylock
so mad, he will vent out against Antonio.
Meanwhile there is a rumour that one of
Antonio’s ships has sunk

Prince Arragon has arrived to do the second
casket test for Portia’s hand in marriage. Portia
warns him of the dangers and Arragon
proceeds. He does not pick the lead as he feels
it is not worth sacrificing. He does not pick the
gold as he feels that gold is too common a
choice and that he is too “special” for gold. He
instead picks silver as he believes he is
deserving of Portia. Instead he finds a picture of
a jester. This shows that he has pick the wrong
choice and he exits embarrassingly. Meanwhile,
Bassanio has arrived.
