Introduction 3  An automotive exhaust system consists of the following seven Muffler components from the ???? engine side: a. an exhaust manifold, b. a front pipe, c. a flexible pipe,Muffler - A device with baffled d. a catalytic converter,passages through which exhaustgases are channeled in order to e. a center pipe,muffle engine sound f. a main muffler, and3 12/10/2011 g. a tail end pipe.

Condensate Pitting Corrosion 9The main muffler is heated by the exhaust gas to about 400°C, at the highest,during a long-distance run and the condensation of water does not take placebut in the case of a short-distance run, the temperature does not go up andcondensation occurs inside it.9 12/10/2011

On the other hand, the outer surface of a muffler is exposed to a salt corrosion environment of the deicing salt.
