    3. GOALS Goal 1 : Make science exciting! Approach: Learn by DOING . Goal 2 : Long Term Impact Approach: EDUCATE PARENTS by involving them in the activities. Goal 3 : Inspire children to go to college. Approach: ENGINEERS as teachers and role models.
      • FAMILY SCIENCE COURSES
      • Impact : Conducted 115 courses in 3 cities for 4000 participants in 3 years.
      • Basic Facts:
      • At schools in the evenings.
      • Eight hours over 4 weeks.
      • Participants recruited from 3 rd -8 th grades.
      • Real-world topics aligned with standards: Cardiovascular mechanics, Physics of Bird Flight, Biomechanics of Diving, Renewable Energy, etc.

    8. STRENGTHS Strong Core Team : Engineers & Teachers. Focus on Long Term Impact : Extend learning beyond the course by involving parents. Constant Evaluation : “What are you most proud of understanding today?”, “What was difficult?”

Community Co-Investing : Parent coordinators, translators, dinners. Rigorous Evaluation : Engineers, interest and content knowledge of participants, long-term impact. Earned Income : Developing mission-aligned products that will generate funding.
