  • 2. MY PASSION Helping designers make a big impact within their organization (while having more fun). I believe everyone has the potential to unlock their inner designer.

  • 4. Work feels like a struggle. “They” don’t value design. No one listens to my ideas. I’m the only one doing it. Not doing my best work, and not proud of the work I’m doing. I’m not making an impact, my work doesn’t matter.
  • 5. Work is fun and rewarding. I’m their secret weapon. People seek out my ideas I have support at many levels I’m prolific. My best work takes place each and every day. I make a BIG impact on customers and the business. Work feels like a struggle. “They” don’t value design. No one listens to my ideas. I’m the only one doing it. Not doing my best work, and not proud of the work I’m doing. I’m not making an impact, my work doesn’t matter.

  3. But first, two stories about two designers…The first is a designer whose work feels like a struggleThe second is a designer whose work feels like fun.
  4. Our second signer is the exact opposite…He truly enjoying his workHe’s viewed as a source of inspiration He has support from the top…And a culture that recognizes the value of designDoes this sound familiar?

  8. We set out to change our organization from the ground up.And it’s workingOur grass roots revolution is making big gains!Not only are we seeing increased support for designBut our work is having a major impact on our business,And most importantly, our customers.BTW – We’re having more fun…
  9. So how do you go from A to B?I assume you’d prefer to be the second designerRevolutions require revolutionaries,And a will to take risksThey all begin well in advance with a groundswell of supportAnd build with the help of others…
  10. But here’s the secret – It starts with you.If you want to effect change, you need to take actionIn the next few slidesI’ll show a few moves to get started…
  11. The most important part…View your organization as the customerUse your design skills to find their painsSolve them wellRun experiments to prove it…Leave your ego at the doors
  12. You’re a designer – rock this!Designers have a unique ability to make things realJust Do it!Go above and beyond each and every time
  13. Don’t swim upstream, you’ll just get eaten by the bears.The best place to start might be on a different team or projectYou probably already know the like-minded people Start there!Start small, but go fastBuild your momentum over time.
  14. Your organization has invested in culture – use it to your advantageYou can’t change the weatherUse it to your advantageMake it their idea, not yoursThis isthe most important
