  • The mHealth market is saturated and moreover the proliferation of apps is providing patients with the challenge of finding exactly the right app to fit their needs. An mHealth app needs to be able to break through this clutter and be the patient’s sole companion in their journey. Within their journey various influencers can support a mHealth app in being adopted and utilized. According to the FDA there are currently 17,828 health and fitness apps and 14,558 medical apps. (11.1.12)The rapid growth of the mobile health technology market is being fueled by the increasing availability of a variety of healthcare applications. The market is expected to exceed $8B by 2018, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 44%.Consistent with other types of apps, the top influencing factors for downloading a health app are being free [64%], good reviews [45%] and trust in brand or app author [37%]. But some of the unique factors for health apps specifically are recommendations from a friend or patient [23%], read about it in a magazine/on website [19%], featured in the app store [18%], and doctor/HCP told me about it [17%].
