  3. 3. What is a UTC? A college for students aged 14 to 19 which specialises in technical studies and is sponsored by a university and business. It offers full time courses which combine practical and academic studies. Employers are involved from the start in shaping the curriculum.

What the UTC experience will be like • Modern engineering environment with hi-tech equipment • Project-based and practical learning set in the work-place environment developing the right skills ready for work – teamwork, initiative, problem solving in practical engineering • Working with engineering employers – “commissions”, work experience, challenges, mentoring, internships, etc… • Commercial awareness as lessons are delivered with ‘real world’ relevance and business and enterprise skills. • Employability and Enterprise at the heart of the UTC • And much more…
