  • 5.       90%  of  T&D  Structures  will  require  Systems  A  or  B,  however  some  structures  will  corrode  past  the  ideal   “window  of  opportunity”  and  require    more  surface  preparation,  or  more  primer,  or  greater  film  thickness.   Other  structures  w ill  be  located  near  corrosive  industries,  and/or  severe  marine  exposures;  and  may  require  a   more  chemical  resistant  coatings  system.  Always  consult  w ith  your  Induron  T&D  representative  before  finalizing   your  coating  specification.  Use  the  charts  below  to  determine  your  e nvironmental  exposure  r anking,  as  well  as   your  degree  of  deterioration/corrosion.                                                                                                                                                     Environmental  Ranking   Environmental  Category   Exterior     C1       C2   Atmospheres  with  low  level  o f  pollution.     Mostly  rural  areas.   C3   Urban  a nd  industrial  a tmospheres;     moderate  sulfur  dioxide  pollution.   Coastal  areas  with  low  salinity.   C4   Industrial  a reas  a nd  coastal  areas  with     moderate  salinity.   C5-­‐i   Industrial  a reas  with  high  humidity  and     aggressive  a tmospheres.   C5-­‐m   Coastal  a nd  offshore  areas  with  high     salinity.           Condition  of  Substrate   Condition Company Rating Guide Rating DefinitionNon-deteriorated (R  -­‐  1 )   0 to 0.1% rust Coating almost intact; red rust covers less than 0.1% of all surfaces Re-evaluate in 6–12 yearsSlightly to moderately (R - 2) 0.1 to 1% rustdeteriorated Coating somewhat weathered; may show slight staining or blistering; after stains are wiped off, less than 1% of surface area shows rust, blistering, loose mill scale, or loose paint film. Needs attention in 1–3 years Severely deteriorated* (R - 4) 10 to 50% rust. Large portion of surface is covered with rust, pits, nodules, and non-adherent paint. Pitting is visible.
