Often, due to lack of access to healthcare services patients do not seek medical attention on minor symptoms until the disease has advanced to a life-threatening stage requiring more expensive and super specialist care. In fact, at the primary level the non availability of healthcare incentives people to seek medical consultation from unregistered medical practitioners and compromise with substandard medical care resulting in misdiagnosis and improper treatment. The major challenges in Indian primary care are from due to following reasons: • Lack of medical infrastructure

Healing Touch: Universalizing Access to Quality Primary Healthcare– ISB: Laina Emmanuel, Komal Vasudev, Guneet Singh, Manvendra Singh Raghav,Harkabir Singh Jandu The other major challenges for providing universal Healthcare: •Although, bed density is significantly lower than the WHO guideline the under-utilisation of existing resources further compounds the problem • Health workforce remains is inadequate and un-willing to work in rural towns and villages. The total number of doctors and nurses is lower than the WHO benchmark of 2.5 doctors per 1,000 population and most medical practitioners are concentrated in major cities.

Healing Touch: Universalizing Access to Quality Primary Healthcare– ISB: Laina Emmanuel, Komal Vasudev, Guneet Singh, Manvendra Singh Raghav,Harkabir Singh Jandu The following solutions will help patients meet the cost of healthcare: •Government sponsored social health insurance programs. •Cover for out-patient spend. •Non-communicable diseases. •Public private partnerships sponsored social insurance programs and increasing awareness of health insurance • Improving the efficiency and efficacy for PHC (primary health centers) and CHC (community health centers).

INVEST in Business model innovation. Corporate channel will require nodules within their network. 2. Maintain PROFITABILITY and ROIC. In the existing facilities through greater operational efficiency and optimization of capital. 3. COLLABORATE with other stakeholders in ‘public-private- partnership’ to plug leaks in patient funnel.

Healthcare sector to be prepared to deal with evolving integrated healthcare delivery systems technological innovations an increasingly complex regulatory environment restructuring of work increased focus on preventive care improving efficiency in healthcare facilities and the quality of the healthcare provided managing finances including modernization, expansion plans and brand extensions optimizing efficiency of a variety of interrelated services (e.g. those ranging from inpatient care to outpatient follow-up care) managing the growing aspirations of doctors (compensation, revenue sharing, high-end equipment, specialized courses etc.) High turnover of para medical staff including nurses Social ‘Marketing’
