10. Battery Working Principle
• A lead acid storage battery can be
partially discharged and recharged
many times.
• A typical lead acid battery cell has
two plate types, one of lead and one
of lead dioxide, both in contact with
the sulfuric acid electrolyte as either
a liquid, or a gel .

11. CHARGED:
• A fully charged battery contains a
negative plate of Lead (Pb) , a
positive plate of lead
dioxide(PbO2), and electrolyte of
sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and water
(H2O) .
DISCHARGING:
• As the battery is discharging, the electrolyte
becomes diluted and the plates become
sulfated. The electrolyte divides into
hydrogen(H2) and sulfate(SO4). The
hydrogen(H2) combines with oxygen(O2) from
the positive plate to form more water(H2O).
the sulfate combines with the lead (Pb) in both
plates to form lead sulfate(PbSO4).

12. DISCHARGED:
In a fully
discharged battery, both
plates are covered with
lead sulfate(PbSO4) and
the electrolyte is diluted to
mostly water(H2O).
CHARGING:
During charging, the chemical action
is reversed. Sulfate (SO4) leaves the
plates and combines with
hydrogen(H2) to become sulfuric
acid(H2SO4). Free oxygen(O2)
combines with lead(Pb) on positive
plate to form lead dioxide(PbO2).

13. • It is well known that when a lead acid battery discharges or
when not in use for a long time lead sulphate deposits over the
electrodes.
• As time progresses , these lead sulphate crystallizes and
becomes harder.
• This deposits reduces the contact area of electrode with
electrolyte( causing increase in the resistance to the flow of
current. )
• This lead sulphate deposits weakens the charging and
discharging process of the battery reducing its service life and
reliability.
• 70% to 80% of the lead acid batteries fail prematurely because
of deposition of the lead sulphate on the plates.

14. SULFATION :THE CRYSTALLIZATION OF LEAD
SULFATE
• The main cause of vehicle failure is battery
failure due to sulfation buildup on the battery
plates. And CHOPPING WAVE Technology
prevents sulfation buildup. In most cases, your
battery is still good. You just can't reach the
energy inside. That means you have to buy
another battery even though the one you
have may still be usable. EMPOWER products
help prevent this problem.

15. Sulfation :The Crystallization of Lead Sulfate
Battery generate electricity through a double sulfate
chemical reaction.
Lead and Lead Oxide, which are the active materials on
the battery's plates, react with sulfuric acid in the
electrolyte to form lead sulfate.
The lead sulfate first forms in a finely divided,
amorphous state, and easily reverts to lead, lead oxide
and sulfuric acid when the battery recharges.
As batteries cycle through numerous discharge and
charges, the lead sulfate slowly converts to a stable
crystalline form that no longer dissolves on recharging.
Thus, not all the lead is returned to the battery plates,
and the amount of usable active material necessary for
electricity generation declines over time.

16. • Sulfation occurs in all lead–acid batteries during
normal operation.
• It clogs the grids, impedes recharging and ultimately
expands, cracking the plates and destroying the
battery.
• In addition, the sulfate portion (of the lead sulfate) is
not returned to the electrolyte as sulfuric acid.
• The large crystals physically block the electrolyte
from entering the pores of the plates.
• Sulfation also affects the charging cycle, resulting in
longer charging times, less efficient and incomplete
charging, and higher battery temperatures.
• Empower reverses the sulfate accumulation in lead acid

EMPOWER specializes in 12,24 and 48 volt lead acid battery enhancers for a wide
range of applications like
1) Connect RED wire to +VE ( Positive)terminal of battery Tightly.
2) Connect Black wire to –VE ( Negative) terminal of battery Tightly.
3) Display indicates Battery Voltage and Blinking of Green Led indicates Good Battery
.
4) In case of wrong battery connection fuse blows and RED LED glows continuously.
Replace the fuse and do proper connections as per instruction 1 and 2.
5) Err ( Error) on display indicates Low battery voltage conditions. Remove
EMPOWER Device from the battery ,charge it properly and again reconnect the
device.
