What a week 4.16.10 What a week 4.16.10 Presentation Transcript

  • What a Week Our pick of the TOP FIVE news stories to keep you In the Loop
  • Tea Partiers are Whiter and Wealthier than the rest of us Here’s one example of the extent of misinformation: “I just feel he’s getting away from what America is. He’s a socialist. And to tell you the truth I think he’s a Muslim and trying to head us in that direction, I don’t care what he says. He’s been in office over a year and can’t find a church to go to. That doesn’t say much for him.” -Kathy Mayhugh, 67, retired medical transcriber of Jacksonville, (New York Times)
  • Tax day finally came around. We don’t love paying taxes either, but we’re not about to join the Tea Party.
  • Tax audits of big businesses decline. Rather than harping on the elderly folks dependent on Social Security who don’t pay income tax, shouldn’t we focus our anger on the corporations that hide profits overseas?
  • Obama’s foreclosure prevention program not dead yet. A program that has been trashed for its failure to help struggling homeowners is beginning to rack up its successes. Below are hopeful homeowners at a mortgage modification fair.
  • How much is your luggage worth? Should we really have to pay extra for the privilege of taking pajamas and a change of underwear on a trip? Spirit Airlines’ announcement of a $45 carry-on baggage fee is ridiculous!
