  • 1. Theme: Men's Health! Topic: “Man Know Thy Prostate”. “ My People Are Destroyed From lack of knowledge”. Hosea 4:6
  • 2. Topic: “Man Know Thy Prostate”.
    • Introduction
    • Man Know Thy Prostate – Why?
    • Structure & Position.
    • Functions of the Prostate.
    • Changes with advancing Age (Testosterone Connection) – BPH.
    • Early signs of trouble (consequence of enlarged prostate).
    • Prostate Cancer.
    • Diagnosis – Prostate Cancer.
    • Treatment Choices.
  • 3. Man Know Thy Prostate – Why?
    • “ To Know A Disease Is To Stay Preventive”
    • “ To Know A Disease Is Half The Cure”.
  • 4. Prostate Gland: A gland in the male reproductive system that is located below the BLADDER, opening into the URETHRA.
    • Gland: An organ or group of CELLS that secretes a specific substance or substances e.g. hormones.
    • Who Has Prostate?
      • Men
    • Where Is the Prostate?
      • Just underneath the bladder
      • Surrounds the URETHRA (the piping that connects the bladder and penis) through which a man urinates.
  • 5. Functions of The Prostate
    • Vital to proper bladder control & Urine Flow-Rate Control.
    • Essential for Normal Sexual Function.
      • It is the gland of ejaculation.
      • Supplies 95% of the seminal fluid plus,
      • The power to expel it through the urethra and out of the penis.
    • SIZE: Normal prostate in an adult man is the size of
    • a WALNUT. This size increases over time
    • especially once a man is beyond age 40.
  • 6. Prostate Gland
  • 7. The Testosterone Connection) – BPH.
    • Testosterone - The Male Sex Hormone.
    • It is essential for many of the more “manly” traits: a Lively Libido, Good Muscle Mass etc.
    • 5-alpha-reductase dihydrotestosterone
    • enzyme vital for the development of a normal
    • male foetus, pubescent development of
    • normal male sexual characteristics.
    • PROLACTIN: Secreted by the pituitary gland & vital for 5-alpha-
    • reductase production.
    • These are good things!
    • At Age 40 another phenomenon occurs. The Enzyme
    • kicks into ‘OVERDRIVE’ (Changes With Advancing Age). Prolactin
    • level increases, thus encourages the production of more enzyme, then
    • more testosterone and finally more dihydrotestosterone.
    • Consequences: Hair Fall Out & Prostate Enlargement BPH.
    • BPH – Benign Prostate Hypertrophy is the medical name for
    • Swollen Prostate Condition. A growth spurt of the prostate will
    • squeeze the urethra and begin to choke off the urinary flow. This can
    • effect the ability to Urinate and perform sexually.
    • Imagine the PRESSURE! (DM)
  • 8. Early signs of trouble (consequence of enlarged prostate).
    • BATHROOM TROUBLES
    • Need to urinate frequently, especially at night.
    • Sudden, uncontrollable urges to urinate
    • Weak or interrupted urine flow
    • Inability to urinate (difficulty starting or stopping)
    • A burning sensation or pain when urinating
    • Blood in the urine
    • Continuing pain in lower back, pelvis, or upper thighs.
    • BEDROOM TROUBLES
    • Reduced sexual ability
    • Painful orgasm
    • Impotence
    • Discomfort during intercourse
  • 9. Other Consequences
    • PROSTATITIS or bladder infection
    • Urethra & Kidney Infections
    • Urine retention in the blood (a very toxic and dangerous situation).
  • 10. PROSTATE CANCER: RESEARCH FINDINGS 50% of men in their 50’s, and 70% of men in their 60’s have some degree of prostate enlargement. Even at the age of 30, up to 25% of men have some prostate cancer cells present. “ It’s not just older men who have prostate cancer cells. In autopsies of men who die of other causes, a third of those … . Over 30 have microscopic clusters of prostate cancer cells”. (William Fair, Chief of Urology, Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center, New York). Prostate cancer, the most common form of cancer among men, can be either BENIGN or MALIGNANT. Cancer cells are pretty much inevitable in the prostates of men who live to their 70’s and 80’s, but dying of prostate cancer isn’t.
  • 11.                                                                 In Stage B, the tumor is considered to be within the prostate and can be felt during a DRE. A-D Staging System                                                                Stage A is early cancer. The tumor is located within the prostate gland and cannot be felt during a DRE.
  • 12.                                                                In Stage C, prostate cancer is more advanced. Stage C indicates that the tumor has spread outside the prostate to some surrounding areas, but not to other organs. This stage of cancer can usually be detected by a DRE.                                                                In Stage D, the cancer has spread to the nearby organs and usually to distant sites, such as the bones or lymph nodes.
  • 13. RECOMMENDED MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS
    • P. S. A. – Prostate Specific Antigen Test. Measures the blood level of a protein produced by all prostate cells. Normal count < 4 , cancer is highly unlikely. B/w 4 and 22 probability of cancer increases, over 22 cancer highly likely.
    • URINE FLOW RATE TEST – normally measured in ml/sec. Average flow rate is b/w 10 and 32ml/sec.
    • DRE : Manual insertion of the finger into the anus to feel the size of the prostate.
  • 14. TREATMENT CHOICES
    • Drugs: generally approved by orthodox doctors.
    • Research Shows that:
    • “ Thousands of men suffering from prostate cancer are under
    • Going unnecessary operations and being treated with
    • Outdated toxic drugs because of medical ignorance”.
    • (Lois Rogers, Medical Correspondent, Sunday Times, 27 April 1997).
    • “ One of the drugs they (specialist surgeons) are giving, was
    • recognized 30 years ago as causing liver damage, heart
    • attacks, strokes and breast swelling and has been banned in
    • some European countries”. (Johnathon Waxman, Cancer
    • Specialist, Hammer Smith Hospital, London).
    • “ Most of the drugs prescribed for BPH have been marginally effective,
    • Have quite debilitating side effects, slow to take effect, relieve symptoms
    • & have significant side effects, including reduced sexual desire &
    • performance”.
  • 15.
    • The Knife (Surgery) – generally approved by orthodox doctors.
    • “ 70% of patients become impotent after surgery, and 40% become incontinent (cannot control urination)”. Jonathon Waxman.
    • He further said, “It is outrageous that men are undergoing a
    • Barbaric operation without any evidence that it offers an
    • advantage”.
    • “ Watchful Waiting” – The Swedish Approach.
    • It means keeping a close eye on any signs of the disease
    • progressing, but holding off on extreme treatments (passive
    • Form of treatments), such as drugs, surgery, chemotherapy,
    • Unless absolutely necessary.
    • “ They’ve found almost no difference in survival rates & the quality of life
    • this way is obviously superior.” (Dr. Julian Whittaker, The Prostate
    • Report, Philips Publishing, 1994).
  • 16.
    • STATISTICS
    • A healthy 60-yr-old man has average life expectancy of another 18years.
    • A 60-yr-old with prostate cancer, no surgery, 16years.
    • A 60-yr-old man with prostate cancer, who does have surgery, 17year.
    • IS THERE MUCH IN THE PASSIVE TREATMENT?
  • 17.
    • The Natural Way – Prevention & Treatment.
    • More & more doctors are coming to believe that an enlarged prostate can be treated or deterred by feeding the body the nutrients it lacks.
    • RESEARCH FINDINGS
    • “ The pain and discomfort of most prostate disorders could be avoided with the proper nutritional adjuncts. Even those suffering from enlarged prostates respond very quickly to nutritional therapies.” ( Dr. James Balch, Specialist Urology)
    • “ We know that some nutrients, foods and herbs influence prostate enlargement and some of them may also influence cancer spread or development. In the absence of any firm reason to the contrary, it makes common sense to take advantage of safe nutritional influences which may deter prostate enlargement or prostate cancer”. (Dr. Peter Mansfield, M.A, M.B.B.,Chir.,Cert.G.A.M.Psl.Med).
  • 18.
    • “ Research clearly indicates that prescription drugs are not nearly as effective in treating prostate disorders as is the process of correcting the organ’s nutritional deficiencies which increase with age”.
    • (Dr. Hans Kuglor, author of the top-selling book, Slowing Down the Aging Process).
    • Of All These Options Which One In Your Thinking Do You Consider Most Beneficial To You & Your Family?
  • 19.
    • Prevention / Treatment – The Natural Way.
    • What Are These Nutrients?
      • ZINC
      • Most critical nutrient to prostate.
      • Natural modulator of prolactin secretion by the pituitary gland.
      • Inhibits the production of 5-alpha- reductase thereby reducing the levels of dihydrotestosterone.
      • Helps the body excrete excess dihydrotestosterone.
      • Shown in several studies to reverse prostate enlargement.
      • VITAMIN B6 (Pyridoxine)
      • Vital for proper absorption of zinc by the body.
      • Vital for the conversion of zinc into a form usable by the prostate.
      • Effective in reducing prolactin levels.
      • WARNING!
      • ALCOHOL promotes the excretion of these two most important
      • nutrients for a healthy prostate.
      • BEER tends to increase prolactin levels which can also contribute to
      • an enlarged prostate.
  • 20.
