    3. Difference Engine (1833 , Charles Babbage )
      • The Difference Engine was designed to tabulate polynomial functions. Both logarithmic and trigonometric functions can be approximated by polynomials, so a difference engine can compute many useful sets of numbers.
    4. Analytic Engine (1835)
      • An important step in the history of computers, was the design of a mechanical general-purpose computer by the British mathematician Charles Babbage.
      • It was called the "Sholes & Glidden Type Writer

      • The tabulating machine was a machine designed to assist in tabulations. Invented by Herman Hollerith, the machine was developed to help process data for the 1890 U.S. Census.
      • 1896 Herman Hollerith founded the Tabulating Machine Corporation .
      • 1909 First use of phonograph in a school
      • 1911 First record players for teaching
