  3. 3. Difference Engine (1833 , Charles Babbage ) <ul><li>The Difference Engine was designed to tabulate polynomial functions. Both logarithmic and trigonometric functions can be approximated by polynomials, so a difference engine can compute many useful sets of numbers. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Analytic Engine (1835) <ul><li>An important step in the history of computers, was the design of a mechanical general-purpose computer by the British mathematician Charles Babbage. </li></ul>
