The pre -History of CALL

Difference Engine (1833 , Charles Babbage )
The Difference Engine was designed to tabulate polynomial functions. Both logarithmic and trigonometric functions can be approximated by polynomials, so a difference engine can compute many useful sets of numbers.

Analytic Engine (1835)
An important step in the history of computers, was the design of a mechanical general-purpose computer by the British mathematician Charles Babbage.
