  • 1. intro IM Startup Brought to you by: Rodger Hyatt = Made for even the most expert marketer, down to the person who can’t locate the "ANY" key. This product will quickly shape you into the effective marketer that you already know you have the potential to be. We all know what it is like to be stuck in a rut, new to the scene, slow on sales. Trust me; if there has been a rainy day, we were all there with no umbrella. Having gone through the school of hard knocks, if you will… has provided us with the tips, tricks and tools of the trade. Using a quite a bit more than common sense, I have put together a very unique and extremely useful package to help YOU, the fellow Internet Marketer. Weather you are just arriving to the scene, been around for ages, or introducing someone else to it, the tools and information about to be discovered in this book will be a vital part of any and every aspect of Internet Marketing. Table of Contents: Tricks, Tips, & Tools A) Introduction file:///H|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/mpp-2.htm (1 of 12) [15/11/2007 7:28:23 PM]
  • 2. intro B) Tools of the trade C) Tid Bits Tricks, Tips, & Tools ====================== Now let us talk of the tips, tricks and tools you need. Do It Quickly The fastest way to do anything on a computer is by having one that is clean of miscellaneous and unneeded programs installed. So, if you do not NEED your precious archive of installed 90’s Atari games, for god’s sake, uninstall and get rid of them. Start backing up stuff and make room to have almost NOTHING on your Operating System. Keep an eye out for programs that do the same thing, you do not need Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, MIRC, AIM messenger/chat programs if you have one that incorporates them all. For example, one (1) that we will discuss later on is called Trillian, it removes the need for all of the previously mentioned chat programs. This is the edge your system needs to operate at full potential. Why have useless chat logs and saved file locations/folders strewn out all over your hard drive(s) when you can have just ONE? If you only have one computer and more than one person uses it, then take precautionary measures to ensure that no one can alter your setup. Setup meaning, the way you have all of your applications and marketing related files organized. I highly advise looking into a ram/flash drive if you do not already have one, and then us it they are life savers. Heck, even an IPod could be used to back up files. Defrag your hard drive(s) on a regular basis Do not install things you do not need. Think before you install. The more room available on your hard drive, the faster everything else will load and access. file:///H|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/mpp-2.htm (2 of 12) [15/11/2007 7:28:23 PM]
  • 3. intro The more memory you have the better. If you do not have at least two (2) gigs of ram, then I would suggest that you upgrade! Ram is very inexpensive these days, especially if you order it from a reputable company online like www. newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com Always be safe about your routine. A good virus scanner like AVG can do a lot to protect you from the nasty viruses out there. But, I also suggest Ad Aware 2007 to make sure you have no adware on your system. It pretty much eats up your bandwidth (internet connection speed) for it’s own evil purposes. Safety does not always mean virus and adware free, the kind of safety I’m referring to now is personal safety. Let no one onboard your system with third party support software like Desktop Sharing etc. Another good thing to practice is secure passwords. You know that you have a TON of them and if your system ever crashed on you, you would be pretty much be out of luck trying to remember them all. So do your self this favour, write every password down on paper and stash it in a safe place in the privacy of your own home. Do not put it on a disk of any kind, but on actual piece of paper. I personally have mine taped to the back of my monitor. Back up your important data regularly. Have you any idea the time and money you could save yourself by simply shelling out a few bucks for a stack of cheap DVD’s? They are dirt-cheap and as you get more in depth with your marketing routine, you will see how easily things get lost, deleted, etc. Tools of the Trade Before we start reviewing and picking apart every single file:///H|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/mpp-2.htm (3 of 12) [15/11/2007 7:28:23 PM]
  • 4. intro program in the list below, let me explain to you why we have chosen them. They are by far the highest ranking in most every important category. Speed, Flexibility, Reliability, Manageability, and most importantly Comformatability. They all adhere to the standards of today’s computing and internet. RocketDock Firefox Trillian CuteFTP Skype Foxit PDF Reader Dreamweaver CS3 AVG Antivrus Mozilla Thunderbird The Gimp Ad Aware 2007 RocketDock RocketDock is a smoothly animated, alpha blended application launcher. It provides a nice clean interface to drop shortcuts on to for easy access and organization. With each item completely customizable, there is no end to what you can add and launch from the dock. Now with added Taskbar support your minimized windows can appear as icons on the dock. This allows for better productivity and accessibility. I will elaborate more so on Rocket Dock, because it is not a widely known or used program, but we have found it to make our lives much easier. In case you, do not know about it, I’m going into a little extra detail about it below. Now here is what I like to have RocketDock do for me. I create a folder onto my desktop and I name it “Desktop”. file:///H|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/mpp-2.htm (4 of 12) [15/11/2007 7:28:23 PM]
  • 5. intro I then DRAG that folder and drop it onto RocketDock. Now you have a dock that opens up for you when you hover your mouse over the place it is docked to, preferably the top center of your screen. You click on your newest folder icon in rocketdock and presto, it opens up and shows you the contents of everything on your desktop. file:///H|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/mpp-2.htm (5 of 12) [15/11/2007 7:28:23 PM]
  • 6. intro I’m sure you are thinking, “Now why in the hell would I do that? The stuff is already on my desktop you dufus!” Okay, true, but follow along with me here… I want your Operating System to run clean and fast, with less garbage in the way of your work area. So, AFTER you have drug this “Desktop” folder (which contains all of the items on your desktop) to rocketdock, you then right click on a blank spot of your desktop and select “Arrange Icons By - >” then uncheck the “Show Desktop Icons” If you did this right, you should have NOTHING left on your desktop at all. When booting up windows, and I don’t care which version it is, the desktop icons are stored in your memory, constantly slowing down everything you do, every window you click on, especially when Windows wants to refresh your desktop. Trust me on this one, coming from a person who hits the power button and is up and running in less than 6 seconds. Now drag the icons of EVERY commonly used application or file or folder into rocketdock so you can access them easily without hunting them down, or dealing with current running applications in your way. This one utility will shave precious time for everything you do on your pc. Rocket Dock Features: Minimize windows to the dock Real-time window previews in Vista file:///H|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/mpp-2.htm (6 of 12) [15/11/2007 7:28:23 PM]

  • 8. intro In the past, you have to download a huge PDF reader from another software company, go through a lengthy installation process and wait for an annoying splash window to disappear just to open a PDF document. Trillian Trillian is a fully featured, stand-alone, skinnable chat client that supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and IRC. • 9. intro scheme, but rather than sharing files, connected PCs help route one another's calls. Skype also uses that routing technology to get around the need for (and cost of) central servers and directories, so call delivery can be free. The best part is you can have multiple contacts in ONE voice call at the same time! DreamWeaver CS3 This is your only needed program to actually create a web page. It is perfect for taking a product page with PLR (private label rights) and loading it up, editing original info into your own! Do a few product edits with this and it will become like second nature. Full on “HOW-TO” support http://websitetips.com/development/dreamweaver/ AVG Anti virus AVG Anti-Virus has everything you need in an antivirus program: email scanning to include email attachments, boot scanning and auto updating of the virus definitions. ThunderBird Mozilla Thunderbird is a fully featured, secure and very functional email client and RSS feed reader. It will give you all of the tools you need to produce your own high quality, sizzling hot, professional graphics without the outrageous file:///H|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/mpp-2.htm (9 of 12) [15/11/2007 7:28:23 PM]
  • 10. intro price tag. Also, it has included a video tutorial that will introduce you to this very useful graphics program. Ad Aware Ad-Aware is a program from Lavasoft that detects and removes software on a user's computer that is determined to be spyware. It also detects diallers, Trojans, malware, data-mining, aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scum ware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components. This needs no further explanation as it’s 100% menu driven and will prompt you for anything it needs to keep your system clean of ad ware and it’s definitions up to date. Tid Bits This is where we share a few tid bits of advice, concerning how to be more effective in the marketing business. As far as dealing hands on with your potential and current clients try to find YOUR comfortable zone of how much time you spend interacting with clients in email and chat. You will find that hours can go by just simply shooting the bull with another person. Limit yourself by setting a goal for ONE main task, and complete that task. People will accept the fact that you are busy and learn to wait until you are done. You won’t get your own tasks done in an effective time if you’re starting and stopping constantly just to deal with other loose ends. Stay focused on your task and you will find out that you have granted yourself more free time then before when you would have normally taken with your old routine of starting and stopping all day. Try not to be selfish when it comes to fellow marketers, you will find yourself in need of a favour someday. See that you get it. Back scratching in this business is done constantly, weather you like it or not, grin and bear it. It’s a HUGE part of your success. Free stuff is good, and most importantly, never forgotten. file:///H|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/mpp-2.htm (10 of 12) [15/11/2007 7:28:23 PM]
  • 11. intro Automation – Whatever you can have done for you automatically on a regular basis will shave much needed time, time that you could be using to complete your mailing goal, driving traffic, pulling in new leads, promoting your own products. The tools are out there, being sold by the hundreds every day, heck, look in your email inbox, you will probably find a dozen without even blinking. Communication – This may sound counter productive after mentioning of limiting your communication with people. Know the difference though. Talking to the right people can point you in directions you didn’t know existed and open up doors that can speed up your success. Seeing is believing Now that you have read about all of these programs and understand the basics of what they can do for you. All you have to do now to watch video tutorials on them.
