WHO WE ARE
The Information Highway Group (IHG) is a highly specialized an innovative RFID consulting- systems integrator. With over 15 years of experience in introducing new technologies in the industry. Headquartered in Barcelona, its mission is to implement RFID projects from A to Z adapted to the business model of its trading partners and customers. Formed by a multidisciplinary team with international profile, has deployed projects in countries like United Kingdom, Portugal, Germany, Italy, USA, Thailand and Malaysia.
Partner, trading partner, or technological partner of key suppliers in the RFID industry.
Amongst other projects has been the prime contractor of the QRFID project at the Spanish Post, considered one of the largest in Europe of its kind, 650 readers and 3500 Antennas throughout 52 sites.
Cold chain Logistics Poses the same challenges that regular logistics: > Space optimization. > Route optimization. > Time optimization > Reduce errors. > Increased automation. > Adding value to the customer. And some specific > Steady Monitoring of the cold chain > Management of different temperatures. > Specific regulatory framework. > Irreversibility of errors. > Management of complaints (proof of loading).
Most Common issues
Malfunction in a camera
If the failure is at night or weekends it can only be detected by alarms.
> The failure may or may have not broken the cold chain values
Incidence in a truck >Should be determined whether the product is affected or not > If it is detected before you reach the customer therefore further consequences can be avoided Irregular loading / unloading > You can only attribute responsibility backing accurate data with delivery date and time stamp and temperature 's threshold historical parameters stamp and temperature 's threshold historical range Customer Complaint > Without detailed reports it is impossible to attribute final responsibility. > "The customer is always right” Inspection > Getting the relevant data may require working hours. > Predefined Reports will simplify the procesus. process. Sea Shipping > Shipping add transit time and increases risk of failure > On board cooling process may change.
THE SOLUTION: IHG MONITOR MAIN ADVANTAGES AUTOMATIC -Steady data flows captured from everywhere, including Shelf life Algorithm. -Requires 0 human intervention, so it avoids omissions and errors, can be easily audited and certified by governance bodies. -In case of failure of a sensor, an alarm will be automatically triggered. CENTRALIZED - All data are aligned and deposited in a centralized repository , accessible from anywhere (through a browser) with different permission levels. -The reports and alarms are generated centrally . SIMPLE - Rapid and easy deployment either in offices, on board (connection free) and warehouses (only requires power supply and network). - GUI user friendly and intuitive interface
THE SOLUTION: IHG MONITOR Technology Smart Points
Sensors
> Battery operated, with at least one year (up to 5 depending on usage) lifetime. > Up to 2MB data memory can be available. > May or may not process data (shelf life algorithm). > Different sensors may be simultaneously available (temperature, Moist, light, acceleration, gas, etc.)..
>RTLS capabilities available on top.
Automated Downloading Data upon entering the coverage area of any reader.
> Very robust and reusable.
>EN12830 CERTIFIED
THE SOLUTION: IHG MONITOR Technology:readers
READERS > May be connected to the power grid or to batteries when on board ( truck). > Wireless Communication with sensors 2.4 GHz >Ethernet (cable) or WiFi (wireless) Communication to the application network ( Future) , Optional on truck communication box and PDA readers. > Self wireless network (Mesh Network) , thereby only Master must be connected to the network. > Automated Download data from sensors in its coverage area and transmit to the central repository. > May contain sensoring capabilities ( temp, moist..)
THE SOLUTION: IHG MONITOR Technology: Monitor
MONITOR > Multi-site > Fleet Management Allows on board real time shipment's temperature monitoring and GPS position Optional Connection to PDA + mobile printer Module Allows you to print “proof of delivery” at destination > Parameterized levels of access to data for users >Generation of detailed on screen reports, PDF, and Excel. > Easy Threshold levels of alarms configuration dependent on day and time stamp and GPS position ( on board) and open/close truck chest door. > Alarms triggered by SMS or email or to the on board device >Harmonized and integrated data management
THE SOLUTION: IHG MONITOR A rchitecture of the alarm notification system Optional 3G/UMTS/GPS Module
THE SOLUTION: IHG MONITOR USER CASES Chamber'stemperature report > Detailed Report of the temperature of all warehouses, accessible via any browser Truck temperature's report >Detailed reports on temperature, open/close doors, position and speed …of the entire fleet. > On spot proof of delivery Pallet, shipment or relevant sku..temperature's report > Detailed temperature's Report of a pallet, consignment or sku…, throughout its entire life Alarms > Programmable threshold temperature , shelf life …alarms function sorted by date and time or by smart point, FEFO rules. Shelf- life calculation > You can calculate the lifetime for each type of perishable good, enhancing "worst case" food spoilage ( 35%) current practice. Additional sensors > Additionally to temperature sensors different sensors ( Moist, Co2, ..) can be added according to perishable product's needs >Customized Shelf Life Algorithm
BUSINESS CASE: Pre-requisites
Largest organic soft fruit producer in Spain
Importer in Germany
Minimize impact on producer and importer processes & procedures.
Simple and easy-to-use web interfaces.
Seamless and automated temperature monitoring and shelf-life prediction.
Overall 100% quality consumer guarantee.
The Business Problem
Strawberries are sensitive to temperature shocks and deviation from optimal range (2ºC ~ 5ºC).
Reduced shelf-life has been detected upon arrival probably due to incorrect climate control along the supply chain.
Producer has had to support the cost of returns of strawberries in poor condition.
Importer does not have any tool to predict the estimated shelf-life of its arrivals.
Fair consumer quality guarantee avoiding worst case spoilage.
Project Goals
Give insight in the environmental temperature of their strawberries throughout the supply chain
Provides insight in overall transport quality
Can determine cause and effect of temperature breakages throughout supply chain and act accordingly with proof.
Overall consumers quality experience guarantee.
Give insight in the effect of temperature influences on the expected shelf-life of strawberries throughout supply chain
Provides insight in transport quality
Indicates the remaining shelf-life of strawberries upon arrival, allowing for First-Expire, First-Out (FEFO)handling rules by importer. Avoiding unnecessary spoilage.
Overall consumers quality experience guarantee.
Technical Project Goals
Monitor Temperature
From production facilities in Spain to importer in Germany, using SmartPoints and network infrastructure
Visualize Temperature
A web-based user interface gives insight in the temperature throughout transport, using IHG MONITOR web interfaces.
Predict Shelf-life
At arrival in Germany, shelf-life information is made available by the SmartPoint, using network infrastructure
Visualize Shelf-life
A web-based user interface gives insight in the shelf-life upon arrival and its changes throughout transport, using IHG MONITOR web interfaces
BUSINESS CASE:Project overview
Producer Workflow
At production site workers should attach a SmartPoint to a consignment
SmartPoints are stored at a convenient location (top and middle of pallet).
The Gateway is nearby attached to a system with internet connectivity.
When the SmartPoints leave the network starts logging data.
Every week importer sends back the SmartPoints; at producer these are intercepted and once again placed in the box for reuse.
The closed loop flow can be replicated over and over to any other importer world wide.
Importer Workflow
At importer site workers should detach a SmartPoint from a consignment send by Producer.
After being retrieved, SmartPoints are stored at a convenient location.
The Gateway is attached nearby to a system with internet connectivity.
At the end of every week SmartPoints are collected and shipped to Producer.
They could replicate the closed loop flow over and over to other producers world wide.
