The growing dangers of fire and explosion of lithium ion batteries have shown that in most cases the heat is self-generated by the internal or external electric circuit shorting. Therefore, effective thermal control for automotive systems will be influenced by battery management systems to prevent internal shorts. In addition, battery pack design concepts have to be implemented to guarantee the safe and reliable operation of the lithium ion battery.
