  12. 12. Typical Applications Building-To-Building Connectivity – Connecting WLAN “Islands” T1 Leased Line Replacement or Backup Video Surveillance Data, Voice And Video Communications High-Speed Wireless Backhaul: WiMAX, LTE Disaster Recovery And Temporary Services And Public Safety Distance Learning And Telemedicine MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 12
  13. 13. NLOS and LOS Performance Line-of-Sight (LOS) Up to 35 miles near-Line-of-Sight (nLOS) Up to 8 miles Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Up to 3 miles MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 13
  14. 14. Non and near Line of Sight - Examples Through Trees Over Desert or Water Around Buildings MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 14
  15. 15. Excellent Non-Line-of-Sight ETSI/FCC 5.4 Urban setting Radio antenna 10m above roof line Target 99.99% availability Competitor = Red PTP 500 = Red+Green 54% greater coverage for PTP54500 MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 15
  16. 16. CCTV on UK Motorway Networks Traffic flow monitoring Faster and cheaper to deploy than fiber solutions Fiber Fiber costs about £4 Million to deploy over 20 miles with civil works for a CCTV network Wireless The same solution based on PTP600 Wireless with all PTP600 civials costs £2.5 and is much faster to deploy Application CCTV with Zoom pan and tilt cameras Results £1.5 Million in savings. Very fast deployment times. No traffic congestion caused by implementation. As there was no need to dig the road! All ready operational on the M6 and M11 MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 16
  17. 17. Delivering Early Warning Forestry Department – South West France Video-surveillance network detecting forest fires 19 towers over 13,000 km2 OFDM BH 9-28 km links Cameras on 3 minute refresh Detecting 50 fires per week MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 17
  18. 18. Shetland Islands Local Authority The Challenge The Shetlands Islands Council needed connectivity between the council headquarters and 2 new schools in order to provide telephony, IT functions, CCTV, and high tech classroom aids. The solution could be funded from capital budget but could not have recurring yearly running costs. The only viable alternative was a leased line and this solution was uneconomic owing to the additional physical challenges of distance and a long over water path. Requirements • Voice, Video & Data connectivity • High availability & reliability • Low running cost The Solution Integrated and Connectorised versions of 60mbps backhauls which provided the reliability & bandwidth required, even on long over water links. The Result Delivery of Voice over IP, video & data services at reduced cost Link availability of 99.999%. No failures reported since installation in Oct ‘04 Elimination of local servers in schools – further lowering ICT costs. The ‘human’ effect: providing a much more cost effective way of delivering a high-tech schooling environment for pupils & staff - “this wouldn’t have been possible any other way” MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 18
  19. 19. Shetland Islands Shetland Islands Lerwick to Symbister – 12.5 miles – 31 Mbps – 99.999% Garth to Symbister – 6.93 miles – 24 Mbps – 99.999% MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 19
  20. 20. Shetland Islands Symbister - Whalsay • Connectorised backhaul • Vertical, Spatial Diversity • Robust, high availability link mainly over the sea Lerwick Council Offices – Main Island • Integrated backhaul • Less than ideal installation • Driven by customer requirement MOTOROLA WIRELESS BROADBAND 20
