In order to take advantage of the new levels of IT agility facilitated by today's technologies, companies must evaluate and transform their traditional backup and recovery processes to adapt to higher levels of virtualization. Those companies that choose not to do so will “hit the wall” (stop virtualizing any other servers) and have to delay the project while they then re-design their backup solution to handle a highly virtualized environment. Projects take longer, fail to deliver expected value on time. Needless to say, it is a painful journey when traditional backup is having problems meeting backup windows and service level agreements. The key message is to be proactive and streamline your virtualization efforts by moving to the next generation of backup and recovery.
