  • I do spend a lot of time with other CIO’s, and there’s just a lot going on so I thought I’d share some insight into what’s in the brain of a CIO
  • When I talk to my peers, there is a lot going on:Talking Points:Efficiencies: IT Cost, cost, cost, cost / reduced budgets (lower IT costs, Must have vs. good to have by the business) Compression: in time to ROI, time to deliver solutions (business agility)Process and standardizationTechnology capabilities waves to keep up with (New investments vs. lights on)IT Personnel roles and capabilitiesGRC (including security)Aging/refresh of business applications (Business Production)
  • IT will and MUST have more impact on top line growthKey technology is THE enabler for the businessFor our business partners, technology will enable them to drive growth and revenue, and without that, there is no businessAs a result, technology is more relevant than ever to enable the business
  • The business getting IT as a true SERVICEMeans would they come to you if they had a CHOICE of Providers???It really means the business get improved quality of service, more agility, and lower IT cost
  • Three powerful technologies trendsMulti-core x86/intelFlashVirtualization
  • Simply, current IT Complex, inefficient, inflexibleApp and infrastructure maintenance – 70% of totalStunning 5% is all left for infrastructure investmentPressures: Like the engine room in Star Trek Scottie saying “going to blow Captain!”
  • Promise of Private Cloud, createLower CostImproved QOSGreater Ability
  • The stuff you do is important (storage)Gartner. 2010 CIO Agenda, Q4 2009#1 priority Virtualization#2 Cloud Computing
  • Before Virtualization Every App, with dedicated infrastructure CIO mgr – 5-10% used (avg to peak)With Virtualization Shared infrastructure Same CIO – 30-almost 50%!
  • You may recall the three phases of the Journey that you’ve seen this week,
  • Once you crack the code on one type of problem – it goes fasterDon’t wait for the perfect solution / toolkitThis is our journey, and this is what we’ve been onWe couldn’t do this on our own, but I have my team in the audience and without all of their efforts, we wouldn’t be as far along this journey
  • How has our “build” process changed? What does this mean for our people? What should technologists be concerned about?
  • How does “pay as you go” consumption affect us?
  • What does it take to run cloud services effectively? What changes are we making in our run organization? Are there other new roles required to run the Private Cloud?
  • What governance elements are critical in the Private Cloud? What organizational evolutions here do you see?
