Some facts about thin client devices
Environmentally Friendly
15 watts v 80 watts
Lower environmental impact during manufacture (Fraunhoffer Report 2007)
Last longer than Desktop PC’s
A PC CPU designed to last approx 25,000 hours
Fan and hard disc failure rates are much higher
A TC CPU designed to last 36,000 hours
No Fan or CPU
Data Security
All Data held on Server
Download and install controlled by IT Dept.
Administration
A Support engineer can support 4/5 times more terminals than PC’s
Centralised Management – like your applications
Older PC’s
Aged PC’s in the desktop estate
Definition of aged
Over 3 years
Slow Processor
Limited RAM
Old OS and don’t want to install new OS
How many are
Over 9 years?
Over 7 years?
Over 5 years?
Over 3 years?
Some of the reasons people stay with PC’s
Flexibility
VMware today
Citrix Tomorrow
MS, Quest, Ericom, Parrallels etc
My PC Syndrome
Personal Ownership – Gonk, Pictures, Stickers
Long Life PC’s
Lots of PC’s are lasting longer than 3 years now
Write Off Period
PC was written off, sweating assets
Spare PCs
Reduced workforce
