    Notes on slide 1

“ The whole project was managed very smoothly by BT and most users of our applications have been completely unaware of the transition. But what all of our people have noticed is that applications now run much more quickly, are much more reliable, and are available at all times.” Andrew Unsworth Head of IT The City of Edinburgh Council   “ The second phase of the project will embrace even more complex consolidation involving for example SQL, Auto CAD, Oracle and Business Objects applications. Given the success of the first phase we have absolute confidence in BT’s capability and ability to execute.” Andrew Unsworth Head of IT The City of Edinburgh Council Executive summary In 2001 the City of Edinburgh Council entered into a 10-year IT outsourcing partnership with BT. Under the £100 million contract, BT has taken full responsibility for the day-to-day operation and evolution of the Council’s networked IT infrastructure. BT inherited a diverse array of equipment and operating systems, running a wide variety of applications. By 2005 it had became apparent that the Council’s server infrastructure was in need of substantial overhaul. Servers were not centrally hosted but distributed throughout the Council. Support costs were escalating and concern was growing about the longevity and resilience of the estate. BT decided that in order to safeguard service it needed to implement greater control and consolidate the server estate into a centralised data centre environment. A server virtualisation approach was adopted: enabling greater utilisation of server resources, lower support costs and increased resilience by reducing potential points of failure. The programme extended over a 14-month period during which all 19 selected applications had been successfully migrated into a hosted virtual server environment, with zero unscheduled downtime. Applications now run much more quickly, are more reliable, and are available at all times. The virtualisation project has also enhanced resilience and assured business continuity. The City of Edinburgh Council reaffirmed its confidence in BT by extending the outsourcing partnership until 2016, and a second phase of the virtualisation project is now being planned.

We have invested heavily in this service – the framework has taken two years to develop. Customers are looking for new and innovative ways to maintaining and maximising the services they offer without having to invest in large infrastructures. With VDC, they benefit from an ideal solution that doesn’t require a large capital investment.

Purpose of this slide: Communicate NetApp’s value proposition for the Cloud deployment Key points: Extreme Flexibility: NetApp offers a comprehensive set of capabilities for Data management all within one Unified Storage Architecture. This makes it much easier for customers to deploy a comprehensive Cloud solution. One such customers is T-systems, who has over 170 customers running in their “Dynamics Services” shared ITaaS model – all on NetApp. For example, T-systems maintains an always-on environment for these customers, putting NetApp features like Data Motion and MultiStore to full use. They’ve built a DR solution as part of their overall offering using NetApp MetroCluster. They rely on NetApp for their end-to-end data management and storage needs, delivering savings to their customers of up to 30% overall. The T-systems example is developed further in a dedicated slide later in the deck. Outstanding Efficiency: NetApp is the leader in efficient storage solutions, typically using 50% or less storage than our competitors . NetApp deduplication and storage virtualization innovations have led the industry in building greener data centers that save you money and have less environmental impact. Proven Expertise: And NetApp has a track record of delivering IT as a Service solutions to customers, having pioneered IT as a Service (shared storage) models with companies like Telstra, T-systems and Sprint, as well as enterprise customers, over the past several years (since 2004). We have developed an architectural approach, management framework, and delivery methodology to take full advantage of NetApp technology. We openly share this approach with customers and Systems Integrators in delivering breakthrough Cloud deployments. What’s more, NetApp has deep and ongoing relationships with leading virtualization, networking and automation technology partners. Following slides go to details of each of the points.

Purpose of this slide: To echo the infrastructure requirements on slide 9 and how NetApp storage technologies satisfy those needs. Key points : Note that some of the capabilities are current and proven, others are to be introduced or enhanced in the future. NetApp’s technology capabilities are built on the Data ONTAP platform, which is the foundation of the NetApp Unified Storage Architecture. From here forward, selectively dive in to each point as needed. More detailed slides addressing each point are in the backup section. Drill down into each technology in detail by pulling slides from backup when appropriate. At a high level, cover the benefits of the elements of this slide: Secure multi-tenancy: A virtualized technology that enables multiple clients in one storage system. Service automation and management: Ease of data management to allow self-service, metered usage, and charge-back model. Data mobility: Move data around for upgrade or business needs without the need to shut down physical systems. Storage efficiency: Efficient storage technology such as thin provisioning, deduplication, etc., as well as scale-out scalability. Integrated data protection: Building data backup, disaster recovery, archiving, and compliance all in one solution. Last but not least: NetApp Unified Storage Architecture, unique in the industry, built on top of Data ONTAP, is the foundation for all those capabilities. Also worth mentioning are the requirements for scalability and resilient infrastructure . Those are very important capabilities that are covered in depth in the technical pitch.

Purpose of this slide: Explain how 7 NetApp components work together for maximum efficiency. Key points: As your data continues to grow at a rapid pace, you don’t need to grow your storage footprint at anywhere close to that pace. You can accomplish this when you deploy the technologies that we’ve brought to bear. This is a visual example of the set of things that we provide today. These are not individual components, but rather a suite of features that together bring extreme efficiencies to data storage. Storage Efficiency

Purpose of this slide: Establish NetApp’s proven experience in serving customers in cloud deployment and our position as a preferred technology partner. Key points: NetApp has a strong, strong presence, and we can claim a high degree of leadership in this market. We have been chosen by some of the largest cloud services providers as their storage infrastructure. The top level is the enablers of technology that deliver products or services to the people who build or use clouds. This is where NetApp is going to play. We’re going to be a provider of technology and product and services. People who deliver on cloud-based services. We’re not going to be a provider of services to the end user. So we’ll provide our technology to the providers. And we’ll deliver our technology to the providers. People who are building clouds, either internal or external, that deliver applications as a service. They may purchase and users may purchase these services from resellers, and end users will be the final consumers of this technology in a way.

Key client value - Enables alignment and prioritisation of optimisation strategy to stakeholder pain points Early view of optimisation potential, with flexible but prescriptive delivery approach Width, consistency and cost effectiveness over bespoke approaches Supports staged delivery to meet compelling needs, with early release of benefits. Supports and benefits from alignment of enterprise systems to strategic, standardised outcomes
