    1. Game Design with Game Maker By Rebecca Wade
    2. Game Maker
      • “ Do you want to develop computer games without spending countless hours learning how to become a programmer? Then you've come to the right place. Game Maker allows you to make exciting computer games, without the need to write a single line of code. Making games with Game Maker is a lot of fun.”

    3. Let’s start with the basics Main Screen and Terms
    4. The Game Maker Screen
    5. Sprites
      • A sprite is a picture.
      • You create one by clicking the new sprite button, which looks like a red Pac-Man. You use sprites to make pictures that can then be linked to objects.
    6. Objects
      • An object is a thing in the game that does something, like moving or spewing bubbles.
      • To create an object, you click on the blue ball. To edit an object, you double-click on it. Here you can make it move and shoot, etc. You can name it too. An object has to be linked to a sprite, otherwise it will be invisible.
    7. Object Actions
      • Actions make an object do something.
      • To create actions, you have to first drag a certain trigger event, such as Mouse Click or Keyboard (pressing a button on the keyboard). Then you drag over an action, such as moving, into the blank white box next to the trigger list after clicking on the trigger. You then edit it by double-clicking and changing the properties.
    8. Rooms
      • A room is like a level of your game.
      • For example: You start in room A. Then you complete an objective, so you go to room B.
      • To create a room, you click on the white square icon. You can then stick objects and a background in it.
    9. Backgrounds
      • Backgrounds are the back pictures that can make your game look good.
      • To add a background, you click on the little picture icon. Then you can edit it like you can with a sprite. You then select it from a list of backgrounds to put it in the room.
    10. Sounds
      • A sound can be anything from background music to a You Win noise.
      • To add a sound, click on the megaphone. From there, click on Load sound, and pick one from any file.
    11. Loading and Running
      • Once you have built and saved your game, to run it you click on the green arrow button.
      • A screen will pop up. That’s your game!
      • To play a game you previously created, you need to load it first. To do this, you click on File – Open.
    12. Demos
      • Let’s look at some examples of games built with Game Maker before creating your own.
    13. Conclusion
      • You can download Game Maker for free and play other games at
      • www.yoyogames.com
      • Thanks for coming!
