Currently, communication and exchange between One Health and Ecohealth activities in Vietnam are not occurring frequently. Therefore, we believe that gathering all forces from all of the programs, projects, and initiatives of One Health and Ecohealth in the country would have a greater impact in improving human, animal, environmental health. We created a One Health-Ecohealth brief which is a platform for networks to share information on One Health and Ecohealth activities in Vietnam and more. What are One Health and Ecohealth*? Eco Health • • • • • Complexity focus System thinking Pioneered byIDRC Bottom Up Vets, Medicos, epidemiologists, ecologists, social scientists, philosophers, indigenous perspectives, etc. One Health One Health • • • • • Integrated approach Ecohealth Schwabe‘s One Medicine One world/One Medicine More quantitative Vets, medicos, some ecologist Currently institutionalized (FAO, OIE) • Rather ‘Top down’ * Adapted from Karen Morrison et al (2012) Why do we need a joint platform for the two? The “One Health – Ecohealth in Vietnam” is a platform for networks to share information on One Health and Ecohealth activities in Vietnam and to develop strategies to improve One Health and Ecohealth operations in Vietnam through networking, training, research, and advocacy. This initiative has been proposed and realized by a core partner group working on Ecohealth and One Health from universities, research institutes, intergovernmental organization, ministries, and international organizations in Vietnam, especially the Ecohealth Field Building Leadership Initiative (FBLI) in South East Asia project (funded by IDRC) and Vietnam One Health University Network (VOHUN, funded by USAID).
