GENERAL FEATURES OF THE REGION GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION <ul><li>North latitude 9°20' & 14°20' and East longitude 30°20' and 40°20'. </li></ul><ul><li>Located in Northwest part of Ethiopia. </li></ul><ul><li>10 Administrative zones, 153 rural and urban districts and 3467 kebeles (Peasant Associations). </li></ul><ul><li>Total Area is estimated to be 170052 sq km </li></ul><ul><li>Shares 25% total area of the country </li></ul><ul><li>Boarders :-Tigray, Afar, Oromiya, Benshangul Gumiz & Sudan. </li></ul><ul><li>The annual mean temp. 15-210c. </li></ul><ul><li>Altitude : - 500 at Matebia to 4620 masl at Ras Dashen. </li></ul><ul><li>Agro-ecologica l zones: Wurch (3.6%) Dega (21.4%), Woinadega (44 %) and Kola (31 %). </li></ul><ul><li>Human population 18,192,794 </li></ul><ul><li>Livestock population 43,003,978 (33%) </li></ul>
