  1. 1.         Library Catalog Online Request Form Louisiana Loan SHARK OCLC V-Smart (circulation software) Reference Department Delivery System Circulation Department
  2. 2.     The first component of the ILL system is verifying that the item requested is not owned by the library Users must search for the item in the catalog If the item is not located in the catalog, the item can be requested through Interlibrary loan. The catalog must return accurate search results
  3. 3.    Can be completed by Patrons or Staff Separate form for article requests Information on the form gets emailed to ILL staff when the form is submitted
  4. 4.      Louisiana Interlibrary Loan System – Loan SHARK Consortium of Louisiana libraries administered by the State Library ILL staff searches for the item on Loan SHARK first If the item cannot be fulfilled with Loan SHARK, staff requests it through OCLC OCLC is a larger consortium
  5. 5.    The circulation software program used by the East Baton Rouge Parish Library ILL items must work within the system ILL items receive a temporary barcode to be compatible
  6. 6.    Tells patrons about ILL and sends in most requests Responsible for notifying patrons that their ILL item is available for pickup Shelves item on circulation’s hold shelf after patron notification
  7. 7.   If ILL items need to be shipped to another library location, they are sent through the delivery system Runs Monday – Friday and stops at each location daily
  8. 8.      Responsible for unpacking delivery and delivering items to their intended recipient Gives ILL items received in delivery to the reference department for patron notification Checks out ILL items to patrons Explains about the renewal process Sends returned ILL items back to the ILL department at the Main Library
  9. 9.   All of these departments and systems must work together to fulfill an ILL request If one component fails, the patron might not receive their requested item or may have to wait
