File Name Here.ppt Welcome everyone. We’re delighted you could come today. We’ve built this event for you. We listened to you. And you've told us a couple key things. First, it’s time to figure out how to optimize your business, and grow effectively in today’s business environment. You also told us that more than ever you need to deliver results. Let me share with you the plan for this morning. It’s about how you can transform your organization for growth, whether department, role based, or enterprise-wide. The key is to have the business agility to change to meet evolving customer expectations, and drive better business outcomes within and across your business network. We at IBM are focused on delivering capabilities to help you transform.
First let’s think about the context of our business environment today Think about this – - 90% of CIOs expect significant change to their business - 82% of CEOs expect high or very high levels of complexity in their businesses. - Only half of CEOs felt prepared to handle expected change. Change, complexity, and uncertainty are the new normal. And the pace of change and complexity is accelerating.
As I mentioned, all of our organizations are now a part of a dynamic business network of relationships with customers, partners and suppliers that shape the way we do business. The expectations consumers have of our goods and services are escalating and the channels we use to reach them continue to expand. Competitors and partners of any size can arise from anywhere around the globe. Not only is t he velocity business change increasing, but… We must become more comfortable with a network over which we have little control, and yet is essential to our business. This requires increased visibility across our supply chain, tighter integration, and the ability to optimize processes across organizational boundaries - and still make rapid, yet informed business decisions. It’s not easy.
It’s important to understand that transformation is a way of business life today for organizations of any ages. Let’s look at an example of a longstanding successful company that has recognized the need to transform itself over it’s history and been successful doing so. Caterpillar, a well known worldwide construction equipment and services company, started operations in 1925. John Heller, VP and CIO of Caterpillar, spoke at our worldwide Impact event in Las Vegas this April about how Caterpillar has spent the last 83 years in partnership with IBM to fuel the transformations they’ve needed to be successful. It wasn’t a story about a single project, but instead one of a journey of continuous transformation over the years to adjust to the shifting business marketplace. He talked about a number of the transformation projects they’ve worked with IBM to achieve in the areas of supply chain, order to delivery, and warranty administration. The warranty project, for instance, was implemented to deal with the rising complexity of warranty administration. Caterpillar leveraged WebSphere ILOG business rules management capabilities to transform that complexity into efficiency – and it saves them 60 million dollars annually. He also talked about how the business environment has changed for Caterpillar. Their business is an ever expanding network. Their supply chain and partners, their global employee and dealer network in over 50 countries, their worldwide customers. He also spoke about how they are now working with IBM to converge the physical and digital infrastructures to make their equipment smarter and more connected – a part of their business network. A smarter physical infrastructure for a smarter planet. In John’s word’s the benefits they expect to see from this are “Big” with a capital “B”. And the value of the IBM partnership in getting there is “priceless”
Excellence is a moving target. So now -- more than ever--it’s time for transformation. Transformation is about BUSINESS CHANGE that causes people to think and act differently. I’m talking about practical changes to address real challenges and opportunities. The changes may be small or large, but they are happening continuously today. Whether it’s at a department, organization, enterprise, or industry level, transformation must happen at a pace faster than anything we’ve done before and we must be prepared to do it over and over again. The bottom line is that to grow in today’s environment transformation is NOT optional.
The bad news is 70% of transformations fail. The good news is, based on our engagements with thousands of successful companies, we have seen what it takes to succeed. First, executive sponsorship is key. Change is hard, and the business has to stand behind transformational decisions. With this leadership in place, technology can then fuel and scale the transformations you choose to make. Here are a couple examples of our clients that have been successful at transforming themselves: RELIANCE Summary: Launched new insurance services 50% faster Doubled share in crowded marketplace Optimized processes to fund new growth and react quickly to new opportunities QUOTE: “My job was to inspire people to think differently… to go beyond what any other companies in India have done.” - Mohan Chandrasekaran, Chief Technology Officer, Reliance Life Insurance EMT Summary: Telecom provider EMT speeded up its ability to target the right campaign to the right customer EMT is a leading mobile telecommunications provider in Estonia. The company partly attributes its success to its sophisticated approach to marketing, which leverages numerous channels to communicate special offers and promotions to existing and prospective customers. BUT, they realized with a marketing promotion process that heavily relied on manual steps and IT coding interventions they couldn’t react nearly fast enough. So, they used IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules to streamline their campaign management process and make it easier to implement changes without significant development effort. The EMT marketing team is able to define its own campaign targets, without waiting for assistance from IT, and dealers in the retail stores are able to deliver better offers to their customers. The WebSphere solution can automatically calculate the best offers for each customer based on age, phone usage, professional status and other factors, making it much easier for the dealer to present a compelling offer and close the deal. Now they are on the pace they need to be on. BACKGROUND DETAIL: Reliance Life Insurance Increase market share and decrease onboarding costs Reliance Capital is one of India’s leading private sector financial services company, with interest in life and general insurance, asset management and mutual funds, stock brokerage, proprietary investments, private equity and other aspects of financial services. Their objective to achieve rapid customer growth was an important factor in the emergence of one of their recent market entrants, Mumbai-based Reliance Life Insurance, and effective strategic management of its growth set Reliance Capital apart from its competitors. To translate market potential into new customers, Reliance Life Insurance needed to establish the business infrastructure—the channels, people, processes and systems—required to handle new business. They also needed to develop the right mix of life insurance products to align with the needs of a diverse customer population. Reliance Life Insurance saw significant sales opportunities in India due to changing economics and education levels that accelerated the demand for new policies and needed to develop the right mix of life insurance products to align with diverse customers. However, the traditional agent sales process was too slow and costly to keep up with demand. Executives recognized this as a growth opportunity and implemented a strategic mandate to increase market share by decreasing onboarding costs and time and increasing the number of new policies. They had to overcome several major obstacles: decentralized and non-standardized systems, unavailable information and an inability to change processes rapidly to align with business shifts. Reliance Life Insurance adopted an agile change strategy. Business and IT professionals merged into a single organization to redesign the customer experience, define the business rules for automation and develop an overall solution. With this agile approach, Reliance Life Insurance introduced a customer self-service portal enabling buyers to independently complete the process. They automated the enrollment process to lower time and costs, reducing the availability of analytics information from a 24-hour turnaround to near real time and, as a result, they became more responsive to change. “ My job was to inspire people to think differently about self-service, to go beyond what any other [life insurance] companies in India have done.” C. Mohan, Chief Technology Officer, Reliance Life Insurance – Business Agility Study Like many companies, Reliance Life Insurance also recognized that an agile journey can be complex to navigate. Centralizing Reliance Life Insurance’s systems and pushing information to the dependent systems caused time delays. Data entry responsibility was centralized while data ownership remained at the branch level, adding processing complexity. To resolve the issues, Reliance Life Insurance quickly implemented technology and organizational changes that enabled both their agents and customers (using the self-service portal) to update information directly and have the results distributed in near real-time to all internal users. This ability to rapidly overcome technical and organizational hurdles and adjust to unforeseen issues as they arise is a common attribute of highly agile companies such as Reliance Life Insurance. Creativity and agility Agile companies are led by creative leaders who activate change in the organization to stay ahead of the market. These leaders target and deliver significant business outcomes. They develop strategic plans and identify opportunities for significant cost savings or growth. Creativity and innovation drive their business processes and agility is measured by company-defined expectations. Companies with an agile framework create closely-knit business and IT partnerships responsible for all aspects of project delivery—from the strategic imperative to the solution formulation to the implementation. Creative leaders encourage experimentation throughout their organizations. They also design business model changes to realize their strategies, take more calculated risks and become more innovative in the way they lead and communicate. Agility meets strategic directives—faster and smarter Knowing what to change As corporate environments change—and business complexities deepen—agility becomes increasingly important. Companies must navigate a path through the increasingly complex environment of global integration. As a result, agility is considered a “must-do” for CEOs and their companies. Traditionally, agility refers to an organization’s ability to rapidly adapt to market and environmental changes. Now, there are new perspectives as the meaning of agility has evolved in response to the changing business climate. Agility has taken on a bigger and more critical role in supporting companies’ responses to change. Leaders and trend observers highlight agility as the key to capitalizing on innovation and achieving success in the unpredictable and rapidly evolving marketplace. An agile corporate environment employs a different approach. There are no impulsive responses to fire alarms; escape-and-rescue plans are ready for action. It’s not an after-effect response to a business event. Agility in today’s climate is fully integrated into the business culture. It’s the quiet, but powerful force behind the ability to change quickly because leaders and managers recognize the signs of change. Agility sees-and-responds. It predicts and plans. It senses and reacts. “My job was to inspire people to think differently about self-service, to go beyond what any other [life insurance] companies in India have done.” C. WebSphere technology innovations have been at the heart of your organization's critical business inflection points over the last decade to leverage the web standards to reach new customers, to adopt new business models, and to drive growth. Let’s just spend a few minutes on the portfolio. A little over a decade ago, we started with the WebSphere Application Server. It’s the core of our application platform, providing cost effective delivery and scalable management of your critical applications. It is now used by 100,000 clients and drives 80% of all business transactions. On this platform and using a service-oriented architecture (SOA) approach you can break down the barriers of siloed applications - unlocking your business logic and workflow. The power is not in the applications themselves. No single application can support any of your key business processes. The power is in the combining functions that come from parts of many applications into something that truly differentiates you. Today, 84% of global 2000 companies are using SOA to do exactly that by removing application boundaries. In a connected world, quick and sure integration is essential to your success. Our MQ and ESB products establish the foundation to integrate the enterprise, and to link the digital and physical world to truly connect a smarter planet. These connections bring business and IT closer, creating the opportunity to transform business processes. Our Business Process Management software helps over 5,000 of you do this today. And we’ve continued to add new ways to interact with your clients and partners with portal, smarter commerce, and dozens of other products built on WebSphere. We’ve captured industry specific expertise in solutions on this platform to speed time to value. Organic growth and innovation are reflected in the 700+ patents we’ve earned across the WebSphere family... and we’ve added new functionality from acquisitions like ILOG, Lombardi, and Sterling as well. Simply put, IBM WebSphere is the most complete set of capabilities in the industry and has helped you create business agility and drive growth. And we’re just getting started. We’re continuing to extend our leading capabilities in each of these areas. We are also providing support for new delivery models like mobile, cloud, and appliances that are transforming the way you reach your customers and partners, and the way you consume IT capabilities.
So how do you apply these capabilities to transform your business? Remember, 80% of CEO's think their business is going to be a lot more complex and only half of them feel equipped to manage it. We’ve also learned that CEOs are expecting 20 percent of revenue to come from new sources in the next five years. Do you know how to support and integrate those new revenue streams and optimize them for growth? Business agility is required. We have found there are 3 key ingredients for business agility: Visibility -- to understand what’s happening within and across your business network. Operational dexterity -- to make changes quickly and consistently. Process integrity -- to ensure the transactional execution of the decisions you’ve made. These fundamentals have long been at the heart of IBM SWG’s strategy...
So let me turn the tables and ask you some questions. What’s at the core of changes you need to make in your business? Is it growth? Speed to market? Cost reduction? All of the above? You’ve told us time and time again how important it is to be able to drive down the total cost of ownership while speeding new services. The proverbial “Do more with less.” Companies are able to do that. Think about it. Ford stood on the Impact stage last year at a time of tremendous turmoil for their business and their industry. They set in place a clear strategy to integrate and optimize their business. They took the risk and it paid off. It’s time for you to set a roadmap for agility.
Can your processes respond to rapid change? Some of the biggest impact can come from not just optimizing your processes, but transforming them. Yet only 6% of companies say they have achieved business process excellence! Think about your organization: Can you see and manage your key processes in all parts of your network – from a simple department to the broad enterprise-wide network? Can business leaders effect the changes they need in those processes or does IT have to? Is it simple for them to do so? Are you comfortable you can optimize the efficiency of your processes – even the ones that span outside your organization? BPM can help you answer yes to these questions and more.
In WebSphere we come from two very strong BPM technical underpinnings: WebSphere Lombardi edition as well as WebSphere Process Server Today, I’m delighted to announce the new IBM Business Process Manager. It is a comprehensive BPM platform. It combines the ease of use and task management of Lombardi with the enterprise integration, scale, and transactional integrity of WebSphere Process Server and adds new rules and analytics capabilities to help you make better decisions. The most granular, highest-end IT competency can collaborate simply and elegantly with a process designer in the implementation of a business process solution. This thing is powerfully simple. It gives you centralized visibility and control. It has industrial grade scalability – it’s built on WebSphere. It provides unparalleled, market-leading capabilities including: Process coaching to guide new users An integrated authoring environment for collaboration A process center for end-to-end visibility And simple install so you can get up and running in 6 clicks It is, quite simply, the most powerful process management platform ever delivered.
We all know that applications play a key part in your business. But,who runs your business? You? Or your packaged applications? We’ve talked about business agility. We’ve talked about transformation. A critical component we have to think about it SOA. Using a service oriented architecture approach to free application functionality into services not only let’s you unbound your applications and simplify your application needs, but also reuse function quickly to assemble new composite applications to meet new opportunities in your business. 84% of global 2000 companies are using SOA** IBM itself has leveraged SOA to reduce our application portfolio from 15,000 to 4,700 while driving revenue growth. We can no longer be bounded by our packaged applications. An SOA approach is the answer.
This is our approach, successful companies are leveraging BPM + SOA together. Over the past few years, many methods and technologies have helped organizations begin to develop the capabilities to increase agility: SOA has made IT applications more flexible, with added value through service reuse. BPM has helped businesses better execute and become more efficient for a wide range of business processes - from the very structured to more ad-hoc and human centric processes. Using the two approaches, business and IT are now progressing together. BPM by itself is possible. BPM built on SOA is where the real value can be realized.
Let’s look at an example of a real client that implemented BPM and SOA. The City of Madrid – following the tragic 2004 Madrid train bombings, the city sought to radically improve its emergency response capability. Let me show you a short video about how the City of Madrid built a smarter public safety system and reduced its emergency response time by 25%....
To put emergency responders on the scene as quickly as possible, you need more than fast cars and good radios. You need to orchestrate absolutely everything about the organization, synching not just the people from the different agencies—fire, ambulance, police, and traffic agents—but all the processes and technology that serve them as well. And you need to integrate all of applications, data, and processes across their different agencies. With today’s smarter planet, these connections are possible.
Are you making the connections you need on a smarter planet? Integration is essential for innovation, and our high-growth CIOs know this. They are planning for 55% greater levels of integration than their lower-growth peers. IBM can help you make the transition from a rigid enterprise to an interconnected one – one that informs decisions with new information, embraces new channels, and enriches interactions across your business network to capture new market opportunities. This transition is powered by comprehensive connectivity and integration capabilities. These comprehensive capabilities are much more than the traditional point-to-point connections and even service buses that we’ve relied on in the past. Connecting a Smarter Planet requires connectivity and integration capabilities that are simple, flexible, intelligent and reliable. Let’s take a closer look at some of these attributes: Simple – In today’s complex world ensuring success in integration projects is more critical than ever. You must be able to implement effectively and rapidly. You need to be able to leverage global best practices and industry expertise and extend them across your organization. This will give you a best-in-class integration foundation for agility making it possible to react and adapt quickly for any business change. Flexible - Who knows what the future will bring. You will need optimized tools and engines to solve specific problems fast, that are reliable and easy to integrate. Your Integration layer will need to meet unanticipated changes and new processes, connections inside and outside of your enterprise. Intelligent - To stay competitive, you need to constantly incorporate new resources and services into your business – things like sensors, cloud applications, and social media. Connecting to, integrating, and placing this information in the right business context will drive smarter decisions and actions Reliable – There’s no question that to be successful organizations need to be successful on a global scale. This requires security and control over interactions regardless of where you operate - managing them with the right policies, the right security, scalability and support. In addition, you need reliability – whether the integration is across divisions, with partners, or with the cloud.

You still need an intelligent infrastructure to support the processes and applications that run your business. How much are you able to automate the management of your application infrastructure? Is your application infrastructure intelligent enough? You need to be able to trust that even in today’s complex, networked environment, you will have the speed, reliability, security and availability to meet the needs of the business. You must have the intelligent management capabilities to operate and manage the environment with great efficiency to keep costs as low as possible while also keeping the business running smoothly and allowing change to occur quickly and simply.

Speaking of reaching your customers... Even the most innovative applications won’t matter if customers can't reach them fast enough. During the master's in April, IBM services provides the ability to handle 100X average load on the website through the use of Power7 hardware, WebSphere, DB2 and Tivoli. Can you handle a 100X spike? Even a one second delay in response time can equate to lost revenues, brand damage, or more support calls. Yet, you can’t afford to have under utilized capacity just to handle performance spikes.
Today, the WebSphere portfolio offers application acceleration and data caching via Extreme Scale and XC10 as well as hardware acceleration through our DataPower appliances. We are extending these capabilities with two new offerings which together can deliver consistent response to your end users, regardless of load or attacks on the network. Our new DataPower appliances leverage hardware acceleration to take your applications to the edge. They can serve as your enterprise gateway or “front door” to the network and will integrate with our new WebSphere Application Accelerator Managed Services offering, done with our partner Akamai, which leverages their network of over 86,000 servers for global performance. Used together, they deliver intelligent cache control as well as additional security against malicious hackers. It is planned to offer the following key benefits: • Accelerate multiple applications, within a set bandwidth, between the Public Cloud or SaaS environment and enterprise users • Optimize mission critical traffic over Akamai’s dedicated global distributed server network of more than 86,000 servers • Improve performance and availability of Public Cloud or SaaS applications, while simplifying overall application management
We’ve just talked about mobile and appliances, so let’s talk a little about the other emerging delivery model: cloud. Can you leverage cloud to break down traditional IT boundaries and meet the needs of ever-changing customers? Over the next four years, the percentage of companies running the majority of their IT environments in the Cloud is expected to jump from 3% to 43%. Shifts like the need for greater self-service, easy access to world-class computing power, and pressure from fast-moving competitors are driving this kind of rapid cloud adoption. And while cloud is causing many companies to re-think their approach to IT for greater efficiency and speed, cloud is also causing these same companies to reinvent business with greater differentiation and quick responses to their customers changing needs. But rethinking IT and reinventing business takes more than just subscribing to a SaaS service. Can you integrate your cloud services with the rest of your enterprise? We are doing that today with Cast Iron and can extend integration support for hybrid clouds.
The University of Bari created a cloud computing environment to help local communities and businesses in southern Italy. For example, in one project, they used the IBM cloud environment to integrate input from sensors, GPS data, private and public information. The result: fishermen can use mobile devices to determine real-time market prices and they can even complete their transactions while still at sea. BACKGROUND DETAIL: Challenge : The University of Bari had a goal of helping local businesses and communities in their region of southern Italy. Action : Led by Prof. Giuseppe Visaggio, Professor of Software Engineering Research, the university created a cloud computing environment to give companies a platform to create innovative solutions. This resulted in the very rapid creation of a wide range of transformative creations with very immediate and real benefits for people and businesses in the region. Result : For example, they used the environment to integrate inputs from sensors, GPS data, university resources, private sector businesses and government agencies to let fishermen use mobile devices to determine real-time market for fish and complete transaction including shipping while still at sea. While most of the benefits of cloud initiatives focus on lower costs and higher efficiencies, there is a new generation of cloud initiatives with higher aspirations and results like these that bring together these broad interests and make a real difference that affected hundreds of people’s lives. Initiatives like these are not only more cost effective and efficient with cloud, they would be impossible without cloud.
IBM is helping you extend your business value and enabling you to deliver new services by using cloud capabilities. Cloud opens an exciting set of possibilities, but it’s not without some confusion in the marketplace. CIO Magazine had an article called “Cloud Computing Standards: Too many doing too little.” In early April of this year, IBM joined a large group of industry leaders to form the Cloud Standards Customer Council. We want to break through the hype by getting real customer requirements into the standards development process to ensure interoperability. We tie this together for our customers by having a keen eye on helping you both extend and protect the investment that you’ve made in your IBM software platform. We do this through what we call subscription and support (S&S). We offer subscription bundled with support, which means that we do a lot more than just maintenance. It’s not maintenance, it is a lot more than maintenance - it’s the ongoing innovation that our product management and development teams are bringing out of the labs, as well as market leading technical support, both of which are available to our customers through an active S&S relationship. We recognize that you’ve made an investment in your software platform, and we partner with you to extend that investment. WebSphere spends approximately $1 billion per year on research and development (R&D), which translates into continuous product updates and enhancements that maximize performance and lower operational costs in a tangible way. Be on the latest version of our software to ultimately realize the full value of the technology and the investments you’ve made in it. And we protect your investment with the help of more than 5,000 dedicated software support specialists in over 60 laboratories around the world. You can access these professionals, and leverage expertise and best practices, for quick and efficient problem resolution via the phone or the web. We offer technical support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through our global network with local language support. And we’ve significantly enhanced our online IBM Support Portal, which provides online self help functions you can use when you want, where you want, to proactively mitigate risk. These are the significant benefits of S&S, and it’s the fundamental way that we deliver new capability and value to our clients.
