SLSGB Surf Lifeguard Qualification - From Pro Life Guards
1. SLSGB Surf Lifeguard Qualification
This is a national qualification that meets international standards for professional lifeguarding in a surf
environment. The qualification incorporates fitness, lifesaving skills, life support and people management
skills. This is an excellent qualification for those looking to work on any of the UK’s beaches or for those
wishing to work and travel abroad.
Courses run for 40 hours over a 5 day period with a practical assessment held on the 6th
day. The course is
split into sea, pool and classroom based sessions with the following aspects being covered during your
training:
• Practical lifesaving skills and knowledge
• Surf knowledge and negotiation
• Spinal extraction
• Board rescues
• Life support
• First Aid
• Hand signals
• Incident management
• Escape Techniques
• Unaided tows
• Timed swims
• Optional AED unit
Pre-requisites
1. Minimum of 16 years of age on the date of assessment.
2. Be able to swim 400 metres in 7 minutes and 30 seconds
3. 200 metre beach run in 40 seconds or less.
Note
Candidates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course content and must
attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.
Group Size
There is a minimum of 6 candidates required for us to run this course, with an instructor to candidate ratio
of 1:12
What you will need
Full length wetsuit (winter/summer depending on time of the year)
Wet boots/shoes
Neoprene gloves and hat (dependant on time of year)
Running shoes
Cost
The cost of the course is £265/candidate. This includes your SLSGB membership for the year, course
manuals and certification costs. Group discounts will be considered.
