  4. 4.  Members have to be part of ongoing activities in which they can participate, take over responsibility and understand the reason for their membership. Rationale for Local Party Work

Types of Activities  Influencing local political decision making – Promoting decisions on certain local issues that the political party will champion, which may not be currently under consideration by the local administration – Influencing the decision on current issues being considered by the local administration
  7. 7. Types of Activities  Holding accountable local elected officials or representatives of local administrative bodies – Meeting regularly with elected members – Meetings with locally elected officials or leading representatives of local administrative bodies

Types of Activities  Dialogue with elected representatives on the national level on specific laws or draft bills, political developments or challenges  Linking up with civil society groups, activists, sector representatives or faith based groups to organize advocacy on specific problems  Education/enrichment for members on thematic issues and party characteristics

External Communication  Creation of a list of relevant local media contacts and ways how to approach them;  Set up of regular meet-ups with local media practitioners who are sympathetic to the party;  Dissemination of press releases/materials from the national level to local media;  Drafting of press releases, preparation of talking points for local radio/TV guestings/interviews and production of photographs on local political issues;  Attractive presentation of local political platforms for local media;  Coaching of party candidates in facing local media;  Creation of local party events that are attractive to media

  15. 15. Process  Participants will be divided into three (3) groups  A set of questions will be presented. Each group is given twenty (20) minutes to discuss and come up with group answers to the questions.  Each selected group presenter is given five (5) minutes to share to the plenary the results of their group discussion.
