BRIEF INTRODUCTION In February 1999, Tencent launched Tencent QQ, an Internet- based Instant Messaging (IM) tool to support online message communications and instant voice, video and file transmission. By integrating multiple mobile communication methods, QQ enables users to send messages to mobile phone users through the platform. QQ now features new functions, such as firewall penetration, dynamic emoticons, video sharing, image capture, file sharing, visual environments for chatting, and photo display during chatting. QQ also provides users with the industry standard platform for Internet business and mobile and fixed line network business. The original name of QQ was OICQ (Open ICQ). However, because of the possible trademark infringement with another popular instant messenger (ICQ), and also the fact that neither the program nor the protocol is considered "open", Tencent changed its name to QQ.
