It is critical that once you begin training your puppy that you remain consistent and train your puppy on a regular basis.
When not in an active training session, you should look for opportunities to reward your puppy for following through on the lessons learned.
If your puppy has learned the command stay, be sure to reward him or her throughout the day whenever the command is followed. Don't save all of your rewards just for active training sessions.

  • 7. Correct Unwanted Behavior
You will need to correct negative behaviors as they occur. This should be well balanced and you should make certain that you do not stress your dog out or punish him or her for behaviors that he or she is unaware of.
Do not punish your dog for something that occurred hours after the incident as your dog will not have any awareness of what transpired.
Discipline is called for at times but it is often best to use a stern, verbal command before resorting to any type of physical correction, like grabbing the puppy by the scruff of the neck and say, "No." Using verbal commands should always be your first choice.
