  • Now, lets get into the details. The name MergeTec is the final integration of several of LeicaGeosystems innovations. <CLICK>2 years ago we introduced the TS15I imaging total station. This was the first instrument on the market that allowed images to be fully integrated into your raw data. While we would like to say this instrument was brought to market to meet the high end imaging needs of the market, that was not the case. This instrument allowed us to prove to the market that images are necessary and at the same time learn and better integrate images in our system. The MS50 takes all that the TS15I had and adds on with an additional camera and even more options for data flow with captured images.<CLICK>Precision TPS functionality is not just an instrument that can measure to the ½ arc second. It is a complete system that can operate to these precisions in all working conditions as you need on your site. Precision is easy in controlled conditions, but the MS50 takes this to new levels. Specialized casting techniques as well as precision circles and quad encoders on all axis make this instrument perform at standards only LeicaGeosystems has been able to prove as the new standard. All of this precision is in the MS50.<CLICK>In 2009 we introduced the Leica Viva philosophy. It was not a group of products, rather an idea that LeicaGeosystems would provide users with all the tools they needed no matter what the end task was. We wanted to “Inspire” users to take systems and get projects and jobs that used to be to complex. At the heart of giving users the tools they needed was the ability to integrate TPS and GPS measurements into a single data structure. Using GNSS measurements to set up instruments and then being able to use a TPS sensor in a geodetic coordinate system. <CLICK>And then the other thing.. 3D laser scanning in a real robotic total station. I am sure you heard about this before this meeting, but this is the next step in Leica Innovation. Smaller lighter faster is the common theme in all technology innovation. We have been able to take the power of the Cyrax scanning technology and miniaturize it to fit inside an Electronic Distance Meter.
  • 10+ years ago this is what the job looked like. Less than a 1000 points a second and a manual total station.Now we have this:<CLICK>
  • Using imaging to see what the instrument sees is an obvious application.<CLICK>The 5 megapixel overview camera on the MS50 not only allows the user to see what a user would see from behind the instrument using the “gun” sight on top but allows Panoramic pictures to be taken of the job site. Documentation of the measurements and the job sites mean you do not have to return to locations to see things you may have missed the first time, saving time and money.<CLICK>The all new 30x on axis camera now lets you see exactly what you would see looking through the instrument as well. This allows the user to either precisely aim the instrument from the display or the remote control, or document the exact measurement location with the measured point values.<CLICK>And none of this would be worthwhile if you could not see what you were aiming at all the time. Since the user may not be operating the camera from the instrument itself we had to motorize the focus routine so the user can see what is in the field of view from the controller.<CLICK> So we took it one step farther and made the focus process continuous and automatic. This fully automatic feature means that all of your images are in focus every time, no matter which camera is used.<CLICK>Here is an example of an image taken with the 5 megapixel overview camera<CLICK>You can digitally zoom up to 5x with the overview camera to see this image.<CLICK>Now you can see the clarity of the on axis camera. Also note how the crosshairs change so it is obvious to the user what system was used to store the images.
  • To do all of this we had to use a new technology that no one has ever been able to fit into a total station. Usually only used in large systems, a Wave Form Digitizer or WFD EDM is at the heart of the MS50.A WFD sends a continuous signal out and then samples the return at a regular interval. These samples happen at an incredibly high rate of speed, millions of samples per second. Each of these individual samples has some noise like this:<CLICK>Here you see a single sample. The first hump is the test signal that is an internal calibration. Then a second hump should be seen for the return. However noise hides it. By taking many of the samples and overlaying them, suddenly everything becomes obvious:<CLICK>Here you can see a combination of a 1000 measurements averaged together. Now you can see the distance.

  • Now we could keep talking about all of the Unique features that are in the MS50 MultiStation:<CLICK><CLICK><AFTER THIS CLICK THE SLIDE WILL ADD ALL THE OTHERS>However I think we can all agree there just is nothing like this in the world.
  • Welcome back, now we move on from the innovation in the field to the innovations in the office.When most users think of any type of laser scanning, the office workflow tends to be the most intimidating part. Dedicated professionals and expensive software is the norm; however the MS50 brings scanning to the masses. So we have software to match it.Lets start by looking at what we collect with the MS50.
  • Here is a possible workflow scenario that we can all relate to. We start with the idea we need to do some sort of survey.Here we need to plan out what we are going to do. This may include some walking of the site just to see what we need. Once we have settled in, we set up the instrument and begin work. At this time we can take a panoramic image that will be stored with this setup so we can keep a perspective of what the instrument could see. After the image is taken we start to work.We may shoot topo, measure some property corners, document some points with images or scan with the MS50. Any and all of this data is put into a single job folder on the instrument or in the controller.For our use today we will call this a Survey/Scan database since it is all in there. What we do with this data now all depends on where we are going with the data.
  • In the past, the two items were treated completely separately in all software packages.It took some special tools to prepare the data to integrate into a cad drawing as well as some special software to use the new files. Today we will show you several ways to accomplish this in a simple and concise manner without the requirement of specialized users.
  • The first application we will discuss is Leica Infinity.This application is made to work with your survey and scan data at one time and make any necessary survey corrections on field data.Infinity is the application you would use to correct field survey mistakes, combine and clean data from several days work as well as to just organize field data.Rather than show you a list of features lets start the software and see each item.<START INFINITY DEMO 1>
