  2. 2. Course Description  A hands on introduction to automation systems dealing with automated manufacturing practices in NC machines, PLC’s and Industrial Robotics. Activities include such things as automated handling and processing of materials using c0onveyours, positioners. Work holders, industrial robots, and NC machines. Computer Integrated Manufacturing techniques inclu8ding technologies such as sensing, vision, automated product identification, and storage and retrieval will be investigated.
  3. 3. Objectives  The ability to produce designs utilizing automated production machines, materials handling equipment, and control systems.  An understanding of the value and basic operations of CAD/CAM and automation of manufacturing systems.  An understanding of the history and future of automation of manufacturing systems.  The knowledge essential for the safe operation, application and basic maintenance of NC machines, PLC’s, robots and other automates manufacturing equipment.  The ability to program and execute manufacturing devices and NC machines.
