Lean Six Sigma

 1. 1. Lean Six Sigma Sanjeev Hiremath
 2. 2. Lean Six Sigma

What on earth is it ????????

It is a Six Sigma Quality Assurance methodology using ‘Lean’ process engineering.

Toyota Quality Process = Lean Methodology

Six Sigma = Less than 3.4 defects per million opportunities.

 3. 3. Traditional Six Sigma

Elaborate statistical process control

Typically 1-3 years project

Costly process

Training is expensive

 4. 4. Six Sigma Mantra

DMAIC

Define

Measure

Analyse

Improve

Control

Design of Experiment = essential exercise

 5. 5. Design of Experiment

DOE is an exercise to take a critical look at all the processes in the business / service.

It is done through Define stage of Six Sigma.

For example : we define the ‘Waiting Time’ at emergency department as a CTQ.

Measure the CTQ (Critical To Quality) in statistically significant way.

Proper representative sampling

Sufficient quality data is o be collected.

 6. 6. Lean Processes

Reduce ‘MUDA’ (Japanese for WASTE)

Get everyone involved

Process Mapping

Prioritise processes

Cause effect diagrams

Turn around inefficiencies

 7. 7. Toyota Quality

There is something wrong if workers do not look .... and find something to improve everyday in the process...”

Voice of Customer (VOC = CTQ)

Cycle Time – One piece Flow – Down stream pull - highly customer focussed.

 8. 8. MUDA – avoid it or become eliminated

Quality is achieved by continuous improvement (C.I) not by occasional festivities.

Eliminate MUDA or be eliminated from competition

 9. 9. Lean Six Sigma – Graphical view DMAIC Six Sigma Reengineering Lean Six Sigma
 10. 10. Thank You

Biomedical services need Lean Six Sigma.

Let us bring the professional benchmarking.
