  • 2. What is Therma Steel? ThermaSteel is a unique patented process utilizing the power of composite technology. A structural grade, opposing double steel framing members with rigid, fire retardant Modified Expanded Polystyrene Resin (EPS) bonded to the steel frames, forms a thermally broken, light weight composite building component that provides structural framing, insulation, sheathing, and a vapor barrier in one, fast high-tech step. ThermaSteel components may be used for exterior and interior walls, partitions, floors, and roofs. Combinations of pre-insulated components are screwed together to form a unique high performance energy shell that is fast, lightweight and extremely strong, with superior thermal properties. Rough openings for doors and windows are formed during the manufacturing process. For more information, contact Hi-Tech Building Systems 866-241-4390 www.Hi-TechBuilding.com
  • 3. About ThermaSteel Corp. For over a quarter of a century, ThermaSteel Corporation has been manufacturing structural building panels. In that time, our products have grown to provide residential, commercial, and industrial structures in all 50 United States and in 27 countries for a total of over 60,000 projects around the world. The versatility, reliability, and ease of construction of our thermally insulated steel panels make ThermaSteel an attractive alternative to traditional building techniques. Among our international projects is a 6 Million square foot commercial/industrial structure in Mexico and One Thousand units for military housing in Germany. From the tropics of the Caribbean to the frozen lands of Siberia, ThermaSteel structures have been able to meet diverse and specified construction needs around the world. ThermaSteel panels are approved for use in all climate regions. They pass the Miami-Dade Hurricane standards, seismic Zone nine in Russia, and European BBA code #1449. In addition to being structurally superior, our panels also meet the Energy Star standards for environmental conservation. They are fire and pest resistant, and offer many construction advantages. • Simple Steps to a Greener Home
    • It would take 100 8.5 in. diameter trees to build a 1500 sq ft home. ThermaSteel uses only
    • the steel from 2 recycled cars!
    • ThermaSteel homes save energy, as well as money. ThermaSteel homeowners save an average of 35% on their heating and cooling costs compared to stick-built homes!
    • There is little to no construction site waste to contribute to our nation’s landfill crisis!
    • There is very little noise pollution when building your home; your new neighbors will like you already!
    • EPS has always been CFC and HCFC free, protecting the ozone layer!
    • ThermaSteel’s expanded polystyrene building products are made with recycled content.
    • Our panels complete four functions in one, fast, high-tech step: framing, insulation, sheathing, and vapor barrier. Using fewer materials to make a superior home!
    • Fire tests have proven that EPS gives off fewer toxins than conventional wood framing!
    • The American Lung Association’s (ALA) Health House guidelines, among the toughest in the nation for indoor air quality, acknowledges EPS sheathing as a safe material. The installed ThermaSteel panels do not experience off-gassing or host molds that may affect indoor air quality!

  • 5. December 10, 2007 – Virginia Governor, Tim Kane, presided over the ribbon cutting for ecoMOD, a research and design project of the University of Virginia. The ecoMOD project was a multi-discipline project to renovate a historic home with a focus on environmental sustainability. The THERMASTEEL panels were chosen for this project because of their superior environmental and energy saving attributes. Here we see Governor Kane addressing the audience at the ribbon cutting, and admiring a display of a THERMASTEEL panel. The morning of the show the builder walked into the building at 6:30am, when the temperature outside and overnight was in the low 40’s, high 30’s. He walked into the cottage and the space was a comfortable 68 degrees. Even during the day, the temperature did not get any higher, and the cottage was comfortable even with the doors and windows operating.
  • 7. Solar Decathlon’s Virginia Polytechnic Institute Georgia Institute of Technology College of Architecture University of Texas The Solar Decathlon is a competition to design, build, and operate the most effective and attractive house powered solely by the sun. The competition is designed to showcase “energy we can live with” meaning solar and energy efficiency technologies that are not only viable today, but fit our modern lifestyle. ThermaSteel has been utilized by 3 universities in these competitions. For more information, contact Hi-Tech Building Systems 866-241-4390 www.Hi-TechBuilding.com

  • 9. JOB SNAPSHOTS Rosewood Village . Project Manager: Ray Perkins Assistant Project Manager: Nida Campbell Superintendent: John Woodson Start /Finish: 4/07 - 8/08 Project Scope: An 84-unit assisted living facility at the new Hollymead Towne Center, approximately 60000 square feet of new construction. Challenges: Initial borings were done only on the site perimeter, of the enormous vein of granite running through the center of the site caused some trouble. Thanks to John Woodson, his brothers, and the crew at Rosewood Village, we not only got the rock out of the way, but we will finish the project on time. The project has evolved significantly from the initial design, and the Rosewood team has been able to manage all the changes, stay on schedule and keep the owner happy. “The job has been a constant moving target,” says Ray. Interesting aspects of construction: Similar to the Randolph, Martin Horn utilized ThermaSteel wall panels on the exterior. This is a light-gauge metal framing system for the walls, which comes in panels. The crew put it together almost like piecing together a puzzle. “The process went smoothly. It was very successful,” says Ray. For more information, contact Hi-Tech Building Systems 866-241-4390 www.Hi-TechBuilding.com
  • 10. www.martinhorn.com/projectsStudents.htm l For more information, contact Hi-Tech Building Systems 866-241-4390 www.Hi-TechBuilding.com The Randolph made with ThermaSteel Panels Cost: $11.8 million Completion: March 2008 With its high finish levels, quality materials, and top-notch construction, The Randolph is acclaimed as the most luxurious condominium building in Charlottesville. Located Downtown on a tight site next to a busy street, the 79,928 sq. ft. mixed-use building consists of six commercial spaces and 16 residential units, including two penthouses. The project's challenge was coordinating amongst-and satisfying-numerous clients, from the building owners to customers buying customized residential and commercial condos. Martin Horn assembled a top-notch team to maintain the project's high standards and ensure it ran smoothly.
