  • 3. mercury MERCURY IS THE CLOSEST TO THE SUN SO IT IS THE FASTEST PLANET TO ORBIT THE SUN.IN FACT MERCURY ONLY TAKES 88 DAYS TO ORBIT THE SUN.IN OTHER WORDS MERCURY’S ORBIT ONLY TAKES 24% AS LONG AS EARTHS ORBIT.
  • 4. VENUS VENUS ORBITS CLOSER TO THE SUN THAN EARTH SO IT TAKES LESS TIME TO ORBIT THE SUN. IN FACT VENUS TAKES ONLY 224.7 DAYS TO ORBIT THE SUN.
  • 5. EARTH THE DURATION TAKEN BY THE EARTH TO ORBIT AROUND THE SUN IS EXACTLY 365 AND A QUARTER DAYS. NORMALLY THE EXTRA IS THE REASON THAT WE END UP WITH A LEAP YEAR EVERY FOUR YEARS WHERE THERE ARE 366 DAYS IN A YEAR.
  • 6. MARS MARS TAKES 686.971 EARTH DAYS TO ORBIT THE SUN THAT MEANS THAT ONE MARTIAN YEAR IS EQUAL TO 1.88 EARTH DAYS.
  • 7. JUPITER JUPITER ORBITS THE SUN EVERY 11.86 EARTH YEARS. THE LONGER ORBITAL PERIOD FOR JUPITER IS BECAUSE IT ORBITS AT AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 778 MILLION KM.
  • 8. saturn SATURN ORBITS THE SUN FURTHER AWAY FROM EARTH AND BECAUSE OF THIS THE ORBIT OF SATURN TAKES MUCH LONGER IT TAKES MORE THAN THE ORBIT OF EARTH.

  • 11. PLUTO PLUTO IS NOW A MINOR PLANET BE IT STILL KIND OF COUNTS AS A PLANET ... BECAUSE PLUTO ORBITS MUCH,MUCH FURTHER FROM THE SUN THAN EARTH IT TAKES MUCH LONGER TO ORBIT THE SUN, IN FACT PLUTO TAKES 248 YEARS TO ORBIT THE SUN.
  • 12. CONCLUSION EACH PLANET VARIES IN HOW LONG IT TAKES TO ORBIT THE SUN. EARTHS DISTANCE FROM THE SUN MEANS THAT OUR WORLD IS NOT TOO HOT OR TOO COLD. OTHER PLANETS SUCH AS PLUTO TAKE 164 YEARS TO ORBIT THE SUN. IF EARTH TOOK THIS LONG TO ORBIT THE SUN THEN OUR SEASONS WOULD LAST ABOUT 116 YEARS EACH. THIS COULD MAKE LIFE DIFFICULT TO SUSTAIN ON OUR PLANET.
