Coyotes can be conditioned to dislike the taste of sheep through a process called conditioned taste aversion (CTA). CTA works by giving coyotes lithium chloride laced bait, which causes them to experience illness and vomiting. Their brain associates the taste of the bait with the negative effects, so they learn to avoid similar tastes like sheep in the future.
