  • Data Portal• SAMHSA developing an ‘remote accesssystem’ - Data Portal (DP)• Authorized researchers download software totheir computer to access restricted-use dataon a remote server• The DP is planned for release by Jan. 2013• Beta testing started and user feedback isbeing received9
  • Data Portal RequirementsResearchers must -• Submit application and research proposal• Sign data use agreement (contract)• Sign and notarize nondisclosure affidavit(s)• Analyze data as limited to research proposal• Allow onsite inspection of researcher facility• Have research results and outputs undergo adisclosure review before release outside DP10

  • Data Portal Project - Limitations13• SAMHSA has very limited funds to openaccounts• SAMHSA does not have legislative authority tocollect user fees• May need help funding additional accountsdue to high demand
