EPA Consent Decree <ul><li>Agreement between City and the US EPA </li></ul><ul><li>This Agreement is the resolution of an 11-year-old lawsuit. </li></ul><ul><li>Over 400 cities nationwide are under similar consent orders. </li></ul><ul><li>Approved by voters July 2002 </li></ul><ul><li>Stiff penalties for missed deadlines </li></ul>

Definitions <ul><li>CWA – Clean Water Act </li></ul><ul><li>NPDES Permit – National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems </li></ul><ul><li>CSO – Combined Sewer Overflows </li></ul><ul><li>SSO – Sanitary Sewer Overflows </li></ul><ul><li>Plant Bypass – The plant capacity is exceeded and partially treated water is discharged to the river </li></ul><ul><li>I/I – Inflow of surface water and infiltration of ground water </li></ul>
