Retail – Current Scenario The Indian retail market, which is the fifth largest retail destination globally, has been ranked as the most attractive emerging market for investment in the retail sector by AT Kearney's eighth annual Global Retail Development Index (GRDI), in 2009. A McKinsey report, 'The rise of Indian Consumer Market', estimates that the Indian consumer market is likely to grow four times by 2025. Commercial real estate services company, CB Richard Ellis' findings state that India's retail market has moved up to the 39th most preferred retail destination in the world in 2009, up from 44 last year. India continues to be among the most attractive countries for global retailers. The organized retail sector, which currently accounts for around 5 per cent of the Indian retail market, is all set to witness maximum number of large format malls and branded retail stores in South India, followed by North, West and the East in the next two years. Tier II cities like Noida, Amritsar, Kochi and Gurgaon, are emerging as the favoured destinations for the retail sector with their huge growth potential.

The website retails all the products available at Shoppers Stop stores, including apparel, cosmetics and accessories. Shopper's Stop in the only retailer from India to become a member of the prestigious Intercontinental Group of Departmental Stores (IGDS). The IGDS consists of 30 experienced retailers from all over the world, which include established stores like Selfridges (England), Karstadt (Germany), Shanghai No.1 (China) , Manor (Switzerland), to name a few.

Role of a Fashion Assistant •Stakeholders in upholding and enhancing the Brand Image and Customer service standards. •Complete knowledge about the product w.r.t Fabrics, Brands, Styles, Sizes in one’s section, size and style availability of merchandise, new product launches in the store. •Responsible for upholding the aesthetics and visual appeal of the category through effective displays and compliance of the Visual merchandising Standards. •Assists Customers, communicates fashion trends, assesses needs by responding to customer cues. Investigates the dormant needs and assists in making the right buying choices (Suggestive selling, Cross Selling and Add – on sales). •Contributes in expanding the membership base of the organization by Educating customers on benefits of loyalty card.

Role of a Fashion Assistant •Aware about the slow movers and fast movers in his/her category. •Maintains a comprehensive customer database including requirements. • Inventory management and control through ensuring 100 % compliance of Standard Operation Procedure. •Complies with all Loss Prevention and Safety policies and procedures •Complies with all rules and regulations , discipline and grooming standards of the organization. •Supports a team environment that assists all customers.

It conducts Assessment Centres for identifying and grooming employees for the next level of responsibilities. The objective of this program is to identify and groom associates as Department Managers (Man Management Profile with a wide span of control). The eligibility required for an entry level associate for this program is minimum two years into the system. The minimum eligibility for “Fashion Assistants” for the same is nine months. Apart from the above the associates also have opportunities to explore different laterals in the organization w.r.t functions and formats provided they fulfill the prerequisites for the same.
