St Anns Local Police Newsletter Sept 09 - Presentation Transcript

    1. London Borough of Haringey St Anns Team 0208 721 2670 stanns.SNT@met.police.uk In an emergency please call 999 News from your local police September 09 Welcome This month we have been working hard to tackle our ward priorities, which have now changed, whilst also focusing our attention on other matters. The west side of the ward taking in Green Lanes and the Gardens saw an increase in prostitution. We have now made prostitution one of our current priorities as we realised that the offences were becoming more frequent and this was affecting numerous residents. These offences were taking place during the hours of darkness so we worked several night shifts in plain clothes in an attempt to identify any suspects and to prevent further offences occurring. During these patrols we identified a number of prostitutes some whom are familiar to the team. We executed a warrant on the ward, which proved to be a great success. We recovered two loaded firearms along with a large quantity of class A drugs and money. This shows how safer neighbourhood policing and working together alongside the community can beat crime and get criminals off our streets. PCSO’s found a stolen motorbike on the ward and after completing various checks and references, managed to get the motorbike back to its rightful owner. The bike had been reported stolen for only a day before police had recovered it. The team have made numerous arrests including a gang member arrested for GBH and violent disorder, a youth found in possession of car crime tools and a lock knife and a male arrested for cruelty to animals. On 10/08/2009 we organised a one-week boxing course for 11-17 year olds where they were taught the art and skills of boxing. All of the instructors were professionals from across the borough. All students who completed the course were awarded with certificates at the end of
    2. the week and had their photographs taken. We also ran the same course the following week. This seems to be popular amongst many young people. Burglary offences continue to drop with a sharp decrease in the number of reported crimes in September 2009 compared to the same period in 2008. This is great news for the residents of St Anns ward and we will strive to continue our work in this area. May we please remind you to lock your windows and doors even if you only go out for a short period. This is especially important with the hot weather now upon us. Can I remind you to also use the following link to log on and register your property. www.immobilise.com Many of you would have spoken to PCSO’s doing door-to-door visits about setting up a new neighbourhood watch along your road/street. For those of you who didn’t get this opportunity you may have been leafleted about it. Neighbourhood watch schemes are a great way to help reduce all sorts of local problems and issues. Local residents with the support of the police run the schemes. For more information please contact Pauline Syddell- Neighbourhood watch link manager 0208 721 6803 or email Pauline.syddell@met.police.uk On Sunday 20/09/2009 an international food festival took place on Green Lanes from 12-4pm. Green Lanes between Salisbury Road and Williamson Road was closed to traffic which allowed full use of the road for pedestrians. Food stalls were set up in the street and a stage allowed local groups to perform song and dance routines. The event proved to be a success with thousands of people attending. The day also passed peacefully with no incidents of note. Please read the following and pass details to any youths who might be interested. Young people make a difference We want to hear about the issues facing young people who live or go to school in Haringey. Complete our online survey <http://www.met.police.uk/youngpeople/>between the 21st September and the 31st October and they can have their say anonymously. Young people can tell us about where they feel unsafe in their local community and at what times; the school journey; their thoughts on the police and other crime and anti-social behaviour issues. The information they give us will be used by Safer Neighbourhoods police teams to help make their community a safer place. It takes just a few minutes, is completely anonymous, and can help make a positive difference. The school who returns the highest percentage of completed surveys will be awarded £300 of vouchers to spend. The team’s priorities are now: Priority 1 Prostitution
    3. Priority 2 Drugs and Alcohol misuse/disorder Priority 3 Youth Anti Social Behaviour We will be working hard together to action these priorities and look towards finding solutions to them and continuing our community engagement.
